It was in a car crash. David Niven wrote about it in one of his autobiographies. Clifts face was badly injured and he had some kind of internal/intestinal issue. He became booked on booze and pills as a result. Another sad real life story from Hollywood.

No, he had a car accident while he was leaving a party at Liz Taylors, she saved his life as he had swallowed some teeth and was choking. He was halfway through filming Raintree County and they had to rebuild his face, you can spot the before and after when watching the film

Major plastic surgery robbed him of his looks. The Clash wrote a song about this called 'The Right Profile'.

For his part Purves had a whale of a time, particularly off camera, getting smashed on duty free Jack Daniels with Noakes while filming in Morocco (“I was convinced the next day I was going to be fired”), knocking back homemade hooch in Norway and perusing sex shops in Copenhagen with the camera man. Oh, and flirting with Valerie Singleton, with whom he had a brief fling. Singleton revealed the affair in 2008, saying she liked “the pirate type. Walking down my High Street and noticed this shop, it's been empty for years but can remember one on all the High Streets

English Ice Cream Companies, probably thought Pistachio being 'foreign' wouldn't sell well with UK punters...

Not sure it was the English Ice Cream Companies that changed it, could have been the Americans. Original flavour was also Red Cherry, not Strawberry - the whole look was to resemble the Italian flag. I am just about old enough to remember seeing the original, not eating it sadly.

Nah mate. It's the multitude of pockets that are present on proper old gets gilets that are the attraction. Top pockets must contain at least one pen visible. Side pockets big enough to store your Werthers Originals.
