The Oldies Thread

Since the NHS stopped removal of wax from your ears, I've been using a practice that's sprung up catering for this process. Costs me £50 for them both. I've had a free hearing test whilst there and baulked at the cost of hearing aids. I sort of know the receptionist and when I was paying for my wax removal she confirmed that the NHS aids are just as effective.
I was also told this by a nurse, the adverts for the expensive ones are just a con for people who are loaded.

The challenge of getting old ... the surprising, novel and innovative ways your body parts start letting you down:

This weekend is the highlight in my calendar - a vintage steam and classic anything show at a local airfield about 6 miles from my house. Its the biggest in the country, so I hear. Every year I look forward to it, compile a list of tools/parts/engineering bits I want to buy (every year those useful stalls get fewer and are replaced by crappy market stalls selling tea towels and knitting patterns ffs). Days and Days of walking around old vehicles, stalls, beer tents, festival food, beer tents, old cars, buses, beer tents and yet more walking.

I've just finished packing my tent and gear (yes I camp, even though its 10 minutes away!) Into the car im taking this year ... the XJ6 I've been working on.

Then it happens. I take a step. A normal innocuous step. Just a simple every day step towards the door. No uneven surface, no twist, just an everyday step. Then screaming, absolute, exquisite pain erupts from my metatarsals if my left foot. The pain was there, even when I lifted it and it took no weight. Its still there now 10 minutes later after I hopped to a seat, but is at least slowly subsiding.

I expect ill be hobbling all weekend dosed up on ibuprofen.

Oh and after a drought, of course, today is the day its started to rain. Ffs!!!😡
