Recently , via Twitter , I became aware of a Charity called The O.K. Foundation . I have subsequently corresponded with Helen Nelson of The Foundation , whom has sent me the following information , and which was set up , by Evertonians , In Memory Of An Evertonian … This is His , and Their story …
Oliver King , O.K. , was a normal everyday Blue-Nose Kid from what I can gather . 12 Years Old and Sports Mad , he was into Swimming , Athletics , of course , Football , and many other Sports and Interests . He had recently entered The Big School , but then tragically , though NOT inexplicably , this Poor Child passed away . 20 years ago , his distraught Parents and Family would likely have suffered the torture of ignorance . Lying awake thinking , … If I’d have … If only I hadn’t have .. Thankfully , at least the King Family know the cause of their Boy’s death . Oliver was taken as a result of Sudden Arrythmic Death Syndrome – S.A.D.S. It is a phenomenon which affects those between the ages of 12 and 35 , and is believed to be cause of death for an average of 20 young people Per Week . 20 a week , btw …
The recent high profile case of Fabrice Muamba whom , it must be said was most fortunate to find himself having his “ Episode “ in a location so over-equipped as regards Medical Personnel and Technology . Indeed , the presence of a Defibrillator , specifically saved the Bolton Player’s life . Oliver and countless others were not and will not be so lucky . As a result , The King Family and Friends have begun a Campaign to – amongst other things , install Defibrillators in all Public Buildings , Schools , Sports Centres , etc . Indeed , they have set up an e-petition to approach Westminster for Legislation upon the matter to this end . They require 100,000 Signatures , thus the link , along with the Foundation’s aims will be a Post Script to this Piece .
Oliver King was a Evertonian . A Mad Toffee . He never got the chance to go to Wembley last Saturday , no matter how much the pain , it was but nothing to what his Family and Friends went through . The Kid was 12 , FFS .
They have Fulham , Liverpool , and of late , Everton Football Clubs , onside as regards Support , I therefore implore you to , first sign the e-petition , then get your mates to do the same . Then support these People if at all possible in their endeavours . It really is a laudable cause .
The O.K. Foundation Aims ;
1 ; To RAISE AWARENESS OF THE CONDITION , as if diagnosed , it CAN BE MANAGED . Often sufferers DO NOT SHOW SYMPTOMS .
2 ; To place Defibrillators in ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS , and training for Staff in those Buildings .
3 ; To set up a Screening Programme for People 12-35 to be checked by an ECG .
