The next age of government

I'm betting the next age of Government is some sort of panel type TV show where theres five hosts who discuss topics and you can buzz in responses thus changing policies.

Therefore you have or have a TV or you get a fine/arrested.

Our government already seems to be a cross between Deal or no Deal and The Weakest Link, with a little Captain Pugwash in there somewhere. I can see government turning into some kind of reality tv show where we pay to vote in/out policies but get stuck with the same tired old hosts.:(

"Power to the People". Fcuk off Bullingdon Boy.

The post bureaucratic age made possible by the information revolution.

Talk about reinventing the wheel.

Laughable. The Tories = still the Nasty Party spewing out their filth under the language of empowerment.

I decided today to not vote Labour.

Though, I'm also not voting Torie.

That means I probably won't vote.

start as you mean to go on eh danny, isn't this your first time in a general election ?

i firmly believe that there should be a box with "none of you" in it, so that you could put that if you don't rate any of 'em.
you do realise that it's down to voter apathy that the bnp represent us in the european parliament, nobody could be arsed, the bnp made sure all their deluded voters turned out and we are in the position that we are in today..represented by racists.

labour haven't done enough to make me not vote for them

i can't envisage me ever voting for the tories.

lib dems, to me it would still be worse than a wasted vote as it would be like voting for the tories, as they aren't gonna get in so it would be like giving the cons my ballot. i would like to see what they could do for the country though.

it's pretty much a foregone conclusion in my area though as labour have been in for about 120 years, at least the bloke's a blue though and could have a bit of influence on any stadium plans. if labour don't get in though i suppose that will be gone.

One could also say:-

Laughable. Labour = more spending, more borrowing and get the country bankrupt under the guise of saving the world.

They'll be cutting back the debt too. Spending and cuts are not the division between Labour and Tories. It's when the cuts will come and where the axe will fall that's the difference.

As for that TED speech: the Tories are using all this behavioural bullshit now about 'choices' made by people. It should have everyone shuddering as it's the thin end of the wedge that leads to the privatisation of individuals (no society etc) of the Thatcher years...which is what this chinless turd Cameron is shorn of his pc crap - a Thatcherite.

i'm in class now so i'll check out the lecture when i'm done but i just wanted to comment that TED has quickly become my favorite website. i didn't hear about it till late last year but i made it my newyears resolution to watch a different ted lecture every day this year (on average). i've lagged behind recently on that goal but i've still learned a lot.

Dave I pointed out in another post that it was Labour's fault that Thatcher got in, because labour had screwed up the country no end. Thatcheer inherited a basket case economy which is how one would describe this country after that Labour rule.

You may sneer and sneer again because you do not like what she did but the country got back on it's feet and in '97 Labour inherited a sound economy. So yes she did denationalise many things, she also liberated many people from the shackles of local councils by allowing them to buy their homes. In other words to have a stake in the country and perhaps realise some asiprations. For many it meant they could do simple things like change the windows or front door or even paint the house without waiting for however long it would take the council.

She like Brown did make mistakes we know that but FFS it was a long time ago now. What are you going to talk about next? the LLoyd-George era or how about a bit more recent Chamberlain.

That's ancient history now, but the IMF prodded Labour down the road of cutbacks, and wage-freezes and that in turn brought the unions crashing down on it. The Tories under Thatcher merely used the chaos to impose their ideology post 79.

You obviously forget the mass unemployment, civil war, and a couple of recessions in the economy during the 79-97 period. As for home ownership: it was because the Tories were cutting central government funding to local authorities on housing that they launched the scheme in the first place...they then forced local councils to sell off their housing stock so they could fund basic services in their authorities. Fair enough, some working class people got a nice little house in the suburbs out of it. The downside was sink estates and the housing boom that's just gone pop, bringing the rest of the economy down with it. Nice one Maggie!

Dont get me started on that appeaser.
