If any of you have been unfortunate enough to be unemployed, how do you go about searching for something new? I literally don't know where to start. I've been on all the big sites but everything is either sales, retail or recruitment (the only things I have experience in ffs) and I don't want to do any of it. I need something as soon as possible as I want to save up and go travelling next year for as long as I can get out of this ****hole of a country. So what sites or methods have you guys used to find something decent?

Alright Nik,

I can't help too much, but had a little idea for you to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Have you looked at stuff like Work America, or other working abroad type things? They aren't permanent, and aren't paid majorly well, BUT they will get you out of here, and are the most fun you could imagine.

Just an idea.

Yeah been wanting to do that for a while, but its the money to get out of there in the first place and actually biting the bullet and going off by yourself. When I went Thailand last year there was a big group of us and we added to it as we went and it was amazing. Just cant see myself enjoying it as much by myself. There's a few people I know that are gonna be heading to South America for the WC and that's my plan. Ideally I'd like to get out of home and move back up to Manchester but then of course that'll mean rent will increase. Massive catch 22. Get a job down here and be bored off my tits for the next 6 months or move up north and have mates around me but not be able to save as much for next year. With regards to job searches, I don't even know where to start. Other people seem to find decent stuff so easily.

Theres a lot of jobs in local government, charities and trusts. A good way into work is also to volunteer for a while.

The path I'd follow based on what you say is look at companies you would like to work for and target them specifically. Looking for a job in this market is a full time job in itself.

If that's what you have experience in then just get a job in that field, Its just a means to an end so you can go traveling next year

If you need some quick cash why not look into matched betting? I did that when I was a student (signed up to most sites twice which is against the rules and a risk but you can get away with it often) and made just shy of 1500 quid in six weeks.

Matched betting is risk free so long as you stick to the rules (i.e. not sign up twice like I did) :)

You'll need a starting float of perhaps 200/300 quid, then you're good to go.

Worth a pop if you need the cash / in general.

Hope this might be able to help you mate.

I normally just stay idle for 18 months until a mate hooks me up. Last time I actually got a job on my own. Weird shiz.

I can't get the job I want, where I want it, when I want it & I'm not prepared to do anything that I've got experience of.

Time to grow up!

Thanks for your input mate. The point of this thread was to get new avenues to look at. Not just for me but for other people who may be in a similar situation. Carry on though, u lkd ded gd x
