Maybe, I don't know, early days.
Thought he was excellent especially first half, getting stuck in fighting winning the ball, retaining possession.
Just a pleasure to see him looking like himself again.
He'll never be a box-to-box, score goals, or play expansive passes I don't think.
We'll see is only 1 game but he showed the ( limited ) strengths of his first season.
Looked promising to me.

No doubt when he's on the form of first year he can do a job breaking stuff up but you need much more to your game, gueye showed what we need today

Depends what you need from a player in a certain role: that's all on Koeman.
Just saying form last year McCarthy looked over.
Today he showed his strengths. If he continues that, and gaffer finds a place for that, then he will be valuable.
Gueye vs McCarthy today I couldn't call it: think they were both excellent.
 
Any decent offer comes in, I would sell. Played quite decently today though. Maybe could have some future here as a right back. Not again in midfield though, please.

Thought McCarthy had a very good first half, certainly helped having Koeman in his ear a lot of the time urging him to press and go forward in possession.

Barry was quite excellent for an hour, he is one all the youngsters should be looking to for how to take care of your body. It's right too that if he can be used for say 70 mins a game and fresher, younger legs take over for the remaining 15-20 mins, we'll get great service out of Gareth and be able to keep other players motivated with the promise of at least regular game time, even in from the bench.
 
McCarthy good squad player - not a regular unless he reverts to his first season form.. Barry played well today I thought. The Martinez disease will take some time to eradicate I fear....
