The 'Left Wide Forward' Position

Player Valuation: £100m
I find it quite interesting that we currently have five players who favour this position on our books.

Richarlison -- Looks a superstar in the making on the left but some chitchat about him moving to centre forward at some point?

Bernard -- Known to be effective from the left by Brazilians but surely he wasnt bought to rotate with Richarlison? Will he play behind the striker?

Lookman -- May be on his way but can also play centrally and currently on paper a great rotation option.

Walcott -- Has said he favours the left as he can cut inside and shoot...however we have no similar right sided players.

Onyekuru -- On loan at Galatasaray this season but scores goals on the left and not so effective as a central player.

On paper it appears as though we would start like this;

Centre Forward
Richarlison Bernard Walcott
This season would see Lookman as direct rotation/cover for Richarlison + Bernard. If Walcott is out then Bernard moves to the right and Lookman comes in centrally.

Next season we should see Onyekuru joining, who would need to be played on the left...

For those that can imagine Richarlison moving to the centre forward position, this would make a lot of sense on paper in terms of numbers. It would allow us to give him some game time there this season and (with Onyekuru arriving) move him upfront permanently next season.

So, this leads me to two questions;

A-- What benefit would the team see in moving Richarlison up front and why would he perform better there than on the left?

B-- With Walcott as our favoured right sided player (though he prefers the left) surely we need to explore who else can play there aside from possibly Bernard? Suggestions?

A) I see no benefit in playing a Left Winger as a Striker
B) Most wingers can play both sides, granted its not ideal, but hey your playing Wingers upfront, so I see no reason why any of our Wingers couldnt play Right side.

And for the record, Walcott prefers the Right hand side or upfront, not sure were you are getting left wing from.

“I was always convinced, because of the quality of his runs, that he was a central striker,” Wenger said at his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s trip to West Brom this Saturday. “He for a while was as well but he made up his mind during the summer break and he feels more comfortable on the right.”

Directly asked whether it was Walcott who came to Wenger with this idea, the manager said “yes”.

“He is fair, he said if you give me the choice I would prefer to play on the right but if you I will play through the middle, [on the right] is his preferred position and it is true that it is where he is most efficient.”

It's not really a problem best I can tell. Walcott has spent an incredibly small amount of games on the left. He's a right wing or striker Onyekuru isn't actually here so that's one for later Lookman hasn't shown anything for Everton yet and Bernard can play in the center. I'd say we have a healthy amount of depth at the moment and not too much

Thierry Henry says “hello”

Aka ‘Left Wing’

Slightly different position now than the traditional left winger...the media call it a wide forward.

Bit confused here...

1 -- Henry was a winger and moved to centre forward

2 -- Who is playing 'wingers upfront' ?

3-- Wingers are exactly known to play both sides...e.g Overmars, Giggs, Kanchelskis wouldnt switch over often if at all during games?

4-- Were not playing with wingers in the traditional sense.

5-- Walcott said he wanted to play CF...then after that failed he wanted RW...last season he played and said he wanted to play left side so he could cut inside

Lets use a hypothetical and say the brazilians click instantly with Richarlison left and Bernard central...Walcott missee a game, its not ideal to move bernard over + lookman isnt great there...

What do we do?

If Lookman stays it will be interesting as Silva will need to give him frequent games also

Any reason why you've 'forgotten' Tosun?

What we do is move one of them over regardless of the fact that it isn't ideal. I'm not really sure why that's a question

Ronaldo...

But seriously, i am wondering what Richarlison gives us up front.

Club football always a left sided player but u20 games for brazil apparently a centre forward--i read somewhere.

He has a 100% scoring record thus far.

I don't like the idea of relying on a single player for a source for goals.
