The League Cup next season

Considering we've not won anything for 20 odd years we can't afford to be snobbish about the league cup, in fact considering our appalling record in the competition we should be placing greater emphasis on it. We need to kick start a successful period somehow and if it means starting with the league cup so be it, it's not like the trophy cabinets bulging open.
Doug we never seem to do well in this competition since its formation - I agree it would be nice to win it - we have come close- it's jinxed - in the old days the first leg of the big teams used to play home and away - as a small lad I remember seeing a home leg in the league cup v Sunderland - the great Alex Young in the no :7 shirt - A young Alan Ball first half we were 2-0 up , and Bally missed a pen to make it 3 - 0 just before half time - I had never seen a pure footballing side like it, but you guess it we got beat 3-2as we fell away in the 2 nd half!

I'd love a cup, but I'd much rather we focused our efforts on BPL. What I really want to see next season is Everton putting up a fierce fight against the leaders of this season's table, and naturally, serving the kopites a gobful.

I stand firmly behind the belief that it was wisE to play a weakened squad this year.

Whilst I obviously, like all everonians, want to see us be successful, sometimes you have to think of fatigue and well we had a big stretch of games in an extremely small period, so player preservation was key.

Unfortunately, our season hasn't gone to plan, but there's no doubt that our euro campaign took priority, and it was prolonged by having less games IMHO.

One year we'll get lucky though, and well have a cup run which doesn't involve Chelsea, United, Liverpool and Villa, and may play championship teams all the way, christ it'll have been 21 years since we last won one, nearly legal enough to drink in America, depressing!

Yes, that approach had some merit this season when he had to play six EL games before Christmas.

Sadly we have no such fixture congestion next season and there would be a maximum of four games in the CC1 Cup before Christmas to take us to the semi final stage.

And imagine the buzz round the club if we had a big two legged semi final in January.

.

I want the club I support to be successful. To be successful a club is judged by how many trophies it wins. Therefore, it just makes sense that we should want to win EVERY single trophy available.
Give me 10th and a trophy over 5th and nothing any day!

All the people denigrating the Milk Cup would be buzzing come Cup Final day if we were lucky enough to be there

It's a big match at Wembley, a European Place and a chance to win a Cup

I actually think we should go all in on this one as opposed to the FA Cup, on account of the fact that the League Cup is easier to win

It's important to get a winning mentality instilled in the players. Winning the League Cup would do that. We could then look at other things the next season

The League Cup should be scrapped, having just one domestic cup competition would be so much better.

The European place could be handed to the league. Nobody respects the cup, some teams even play their reserves in the final!

We never do sod all in that cup, even the greatest side on our history the 84-85 team managed to lose at home to Grimsby.
as well as applauding Grimsby off,our crowd gave the blues a standing ovation,we were outstanding on the night created chance after chance, their goalie had the game of his life, then Wilkinson stole it with the last kick, aaah well, that's Everton eh?!!!

We'll get to the final and then lose to someone like Chelsea or Arsenal. We'd never get Bradford or Cardiff or Birmingham in the final like some teams do

Once the the non league teams are knocked out, the FA Cup is basically the League Cup but with a slight difference in the format.

It guarantees you European competition as early as February.

But most importantly, trophy cabinets are what football history is about..
