The Joelinton Effect

Is Mykolenko a footballer or actually just a paperweight that grew legs? Makes you think.
I’m sure that Joe Parkinson had been a full back who was seen as being limited because he didn’t have particular speed or crossing ability, until he was converted to centre mid and his tenacity and drive found its right outlet. Maybe Myko should actually be the Joe Parky for the Twenty-First Century!

Honestly think it’s mad to consider McNeil at left back. He is so slow and weak, and absolutely bottles out of challenges. Players would waltz past him all game.

On the continent academy players tend to play in all positions to find what best suits(and to get a greater understanding overall)
If you look at Merlin Rohl transfermarkt history he's played everywhere bar goalie.

As for Mcneil someone shouldve stopped that nonsense a while back bur he was by far the player with most flair in Dyche's Burnley so it probably made sense.
He should be LB but no indication that moyes sees him as Myko back up either

I don’t like the prospect of my left-back being the slowest player in the league.

I've seen some comments that Charly doesn't work well off the ball , I haven't noticed that myself I think he could also work further back as he moments where he has shown defensive prowess and it would the benefit the team as he likes to carry the ball. Joelington is obviously the prime example in this thread but Glassner pulled a similar move with Kameda at Palace where he was an attacking player (winger or 10) now players further back in the midfield

We should not be thinking of alternative positions for the likes of Mykolenko, Barry, Beto, McNeil as they're all garbage and need to be punted from the club asap.

I think we all know the best positions for Grealish (left wing), Ndiaye (either wing), Garner (centre mid). Dewsbury-Hall I'm still not sold on but maybe having real striker would bring out more in him.

Dibling hasn't been given a chance but he's clearly a right winger, which is baffling when we have two superior wingers already and desperately needed strikers and full backs.

Iroegbunam is one who may still need to find a position, but I personally don't think he'll ever be a top or even above average Premier League player - but good to keep around for the next 1-2 years to give him the opportunity as he's certainly doesn't stink the place out when he's on the field.

Alcaraz is clearly a number 10, O'Brien a centre half, Röhl I don't think has the attacking instincts to be higher up the field so likely a long-term Gueye replacement if he can step it up.

Right now it will probably be better if Moyes actually uses his squad to remove the awful strikers and play Dibling and give the excellent Ndiaye a go up top.

Always thought the Michael Keane shouts for a forward starting posistion was down to his twin brother Will, who plays as striker/attacking midfielder for Preston. Don't believe our Keane is out of what can be expected as a centre back scoring goals.

James garner is our best RB can also deliver very well form wide positions yet he’s in midfield were he doesn’t quite have the physicality for the role ,I wish our manager would see this

His slowness is slightly overstated - when FotMob briefly had the top speeds of all the players up, he was one of our slower ones, but he wasn’t the slowest*. From memory, he was actually about as quick as KDH - I think smaller players sometimes just look like they’re going quicker than they are!

*Tarky!

What’s interesting is that - if none of us knew anything about Dewsbury Hall’s career and just watched him train - wouldn’t the same also be true of him? I don’t think anyone would watch him, without prior knowledge and just looking at how he plays, and guess he was a first team number 10. I think most people would probably conclude he was a left-back. He’s hardworking and tenacious, pretty defensively disciplined, combines well with Grealish and has a much better final ball than Myko. I’m not saying we’ll ever play him there and I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy about it, but his skillset fits it really well.

I’d say currently rather than clearly! It’s a good position for him at the moment, but I’m sure he’ll movie infield in a couple of years and with more experience. He might not be a Moyes number ten, but he would be for lots of managers I think.
