I think it's crazy that you honestly think people shouldn't get in trouble for things they say online. The internet has become such a big part of society, it's still a place where people can directly say something to someone - just because it's typed does not mean it should be ignored. You should be just as responsible for saying something online to someone as you are in person, otherwise people think they can get away with saying and therefore doing whatever they want online because it is behind a screen - and that can get dangerous.
 
there's less accountability on the internet so horrible people feel safer saying horrible things, as accountability is all that stops them in real life, whereas decent people will behave in a decent manner regardless most of the time
