The "I Play Some Form of Football" Thread

I play by reffing - had two U-17 boys matches for the Colorado State Cup yesterday, one as the Center ref, one as A/R - my Fitbit told me later it was 23,000 steps and 11.2 miles.

And I am feeling them today.
Well done mate. I have a lot of gratitude and respect for refs - even the ones I spend most of the game wanting to punch in the face! The game would be lost without those guys and girls who spend their saturday afternoons/sunday mornings running around getting abused by gobby teenagers/overweight middle aged men.

I couldn't find an open thread on Sunday league/11 a side football, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I play in the Chiswick and District League on Sundays and we are currently 2nd with a worldie goal difference. See below.

Anyone else play 11 a side? Recently I've been getting really bad headaches after the match. I thought it was probably dehydration but I've taken an extra effort to stock up on fluids and having done some googling decided that it could be down to repeated heading as I'm a centre half.

Kevin Doyle retired professionally for a similar reason I believe... Anyone else ever had anything like this?

How did I miss this...

Lol lol lol

My very own Whitton Cobras beat Subbuteo to go 4 points clear on Sunday in what was an incredibly feisty affair. They were a horrible bunch and received 4 bookings and a red before one of our players snapped at the constant late challenges. The culprit proceeded to spit right in our lads face who completely lost it, understandably. The league will be reviewing the official report this week, I'm expecting some serious fines at the very least.

Satisfying win, indeed.

Hey, how did your season end up?

Hey, how did your season end up?

We had an interesting run in actually. We were second with 4 games to go and had to play first twice. We beat them away, went top and then lost at home so finished second and got promoted.

Shame but a good season for a bunch of heavily boozey and fairly overweight lads from Whitton.

Well and truly into the cricket season now for me.

Nice one, congrats on going up at least! Will you guys be having any training over the summer, and are you on the lookout for new players?

Let me find out mate. Can't imagine there will be much training though. The squad is already quite large (in size and quantity) but I'm sure they'll be pleased to welcome new players.

Where do you play?

Normally left back (I'm left footed), but have played RB and all across midfield from time to time.

Played some vets football last season (over 35) the issue I found with this is that the facilities just arnt up to standard, some of the pitches are terrible (probably what doesn’t help is that we are the later kick off and that pitch has had 3 games on it since Saturday morning), with this there’s a lot of cancellations because pitches are unplayable or teams that have a private pitch want to look after them so will cancel at the slightest drop of rain. I’ve gone back to playing 5 a side on 4g pitches which are brilliant, you pass a ball, it goes where you intended. I thought the FA was looking in to grass root facilities? In my opinion any funding yet to reach the north west of England. 5 a side such a brilliant game, you get 1 hour of the game not stopping as the ball doesn’t go out of play, a great workout.

Reffing this weekend in a tournament in Colorado - my first match yesterday, Liverpool FC (girls team from Texas), wearing the dread red and "Standard Chartered" across their jerseys. Tough match to ref as I just wanted to say rude things to them....and in the end, with no help from me, they lost.
