THE HOBBIES THREAD.

I thought it might be good to chat about hobbies etc, as I know there are some very talented members here at grandoldteam.

What inerests or hobbies do you have, or have had in the past?

I'll start with some old hobbies just to get the ball rolling.

Here are a couple of drawings I did of old girlfriends. I was about 16 years old when I did these, which makes them 25 years old. I found them in a box of sheet music.
I was never going to be an artist in a million years, but drawing was fun back then, especially when a beautiful young lady was posing lmao. I wonder what they look like now. :D

I also like to mess with Photoshop, and take the piss out of each other using what ever I can get my hands on.
Here's a few I did recently when we were at war with City over Lescott:

I don't draw so much now, but another thing I used to do was play pool and snooker, and myself and a few friends would travel up and down the country entering as many competitions as possible and playing for the county and town teams was a good laugh. Some of those friends are now full time professionals, and others like myself, unfortunately don't bother now. It was fun while it lasted, but I lost interest for some reason. :)

Here are a few trophies at my mothers house from when I was a kid:

I'm not sure why I stopped playing, but I stopped instantly one night, and never played again, and not picked a cue up in over 10 years.

Another thing I remembered doing was writing poetry.

I was a bit romantic in my teens, and also a bit gloomy with my writing if any of this was to go by. Here's a few from a book with about 20 in from my teens.

A loser in the making

Another days hand is waved high in retreat
The last whisper in the hour has surrendered it's dying beat
And as the sun is succumbed to the final shaddow in the street
I sit alone and cry ; what have I done ?

Another hustle in the pool room , cigarette stumps in the tray
Another reminiscent moment , as my dreams all fade away
And as I write , the words get harder with every line I try to say
I sit alone and cry ; what should I have done ?

I'm standing at the crossroads , all the signs just read the same
You know you've got to have the best hand if you're going to win the game
But I'm not sure that I've got a single Ace card to my name
So I'll sit and think about what could be done

I'm just a loser in the making on the edge of defeat
Turning pages of a long book , barely written , incomplete
Walking circles in a never ending struggle to compete
Against the soaked up self pity of what little I have done

Yet memories of yesterday are not things I seek to keep
For the benefits of looking back are seldom there to reep
And I'll have my finest hour as I'm curled up fast asleep
As I dream of future things that will be done

These were done about age 18 when I was at college. Again, a bit ...... well ... you decide lol.

Man

Who dares define the essence of life
Who's hatred over powers remorse
Who will sow the seeds of tomorrows child
When contempt has harvested yesterdays
Who are you to condemn anothers belief
To judge , yet not the faults of your own
To tread the soil where others have slept
And bury your flags in the remains of their past
To turn a blind eye on he who has less
Yet envy he who has established more
Just who are you , who gets fat off the land
Who taxes the inner depths of his brothers soul
Excuses are made for those who reflect
In the waters beneath the bridge where you peer
And trust is the unwritten word in the book
Of the man who likes to write all his own rules
For one so blind to the love of his kin
The teachers of life have yet to be taught

Is anyone still alive or have they all committed Hari Kari ?

I kind of played the guitar and a few other things since I was about 13 years old, and messed with a few bands here and there playing stuff from disco funk to 50's rock & roll and a bit inbetween. I hurt my fingers one day in a car crash, which went numb and tingly for a while, and when my back went, it was time to find another hobby lol.:pint:

Here's an old rockabilly jazz blues type tune of me on youtube that you'll need headphones for really as it wasn't mixed well, but when I was learning to use Audacity software:

And a website that never gets visited anymore ...: :(

This was my little recording studio space, which has changed quite a bit now:

My next little hobby was playing games online, and I joined a few guys from around the world, and we ran a few websites and leagues for gamers, in games such as Farcry, Call of duty etc etc. We'd chat on team speak, which was cool if you wanted to learn a few different languages while playing lol. I learned about coding and server management which was pretty interesting if you like that kind of thing.

Now, I'm a bit insane, and I post on an Everton forum. .......:lol::lol:

What hobbies do you folks have, or what did you do when you were younger etc ?

I forgot to mention, but a few years ago, another hobby that I enjoyed with the wife was book collecting. We'd visit car boot sales and second hand shops in search of treasure, but rarely found anything worth much lol. I built her a small library which holds about a thousand books, but we probably have a few thousand more boxed up somewhere.

Interesting only to bearded men and frocked women probably.

Thats pretty cool.

How do you reach the higher up books? It looks miles high. I guess thats just the angle.

No, you're right, it is high. The staircase goes round in a horseshoe shape, so I can reach most stuff, but not the top shelves. I need a ladder for those.

I still play alot of video games and watch alot of anime. Though in my opinion the quality of both are waning.

You're doing this to make me feel inadequate, aren't you? You beast.

I won a pool tournament in my local youth club when I was 16.

I can play 2 and a half chords on the guitar.

I can't draw

I can read.

I'm now going to write some poetry which will make yours sound like a Bobby McFerrin song

Lol, anyone that went out with me would probably want to kill me. :D

Don't you have any hobbies mate?

yeah running.....

round after 3 kids and taking them to all their activities.

following Everton and going camping/caravanning pretty much fills in all the other blanks, don't really have anything that 'I do' as not really any spare time.

Being a dad is hard enough with one kid, so I doff my cap to you mate for having the strength to father three. b)

That.

Used to be quite a good swimmer when I was younger, still not too bad now though.

And, errmmm.... I play brass instruments. I'm not entirely sure why, I just do it.
