But over on the the West Coast, the Political Messages of Equality were quickly being out-sold by a harder, more extreme brand of Hip Hop. Ice Cube and Easy E were the Poster Boys of this movement, and they were angry. Cop Hatin' Angry.

For me, it's in the top 3 of most iconic rap songs...came out the same year as the original Nintendo. I was 10, them were the days.

I've become fascinated with the History of the genre. Missed all this stuff first time round, I'd be a DJ now if i had.

Slick Rick was British, but moved to the US and started rapping in the late 70's, got huge with his debut in '87 and ended up in Jail by 1990.
