Why yes, it's another music thread.
Anyway I was just listening to Sleater-Kinney, a band who to the best of my knowledge only ever had female members, and it got me thinking... women are definitely underappreciated in music. Some of my very favourite groups are fronted by females, and some have ladies on every instrument.
So, GOT, who are your favourite female musicians? And if anyone says the Spice Girls I will hunt them down, and debauch their rectums in the dead of the night. Just so you know.
Anyway, I'll get the ball rolling
Eva Spence - The lead singer of Rolo Tomassi. She's got a great voice, but it's an acquired taste... as half the time she's screaming down the mic. Which I dig, but not everyone does. However she's got a great voice in the more traditional sense, too, so it gives the group a great juxtaposition.
Carrie Brownstein - The backup vocalist and extremely brilliant guitarist of Sleater-Kinney. She is, without a shadow of a doubt, my favourite female guitarist, and I think she's probably the best female guitarist of all time.
Jessicka - The former lead of fem punk favs Jack Off Jill, and the current lead of the shoegazing, goth rock weirdos Scarling., she's just got an insatiable voice and really knows how to write some creepy, haunting, gorgeous lyrics. I prefer Scarling. to Jack Off Jill, as they're a bit more mature, and that reflects in her songwriting. But, for two different reasons, she's produced two completely different sounds with two wonderful bands, and I think she's just boss. Although I do wish Scarling. would release a third album already.
Régine Chassagne - One of the many talented members of the ridiculously talented Arcade Fire. She does a lot of the vocals, often as back up, but ocassionally as the lead. She's got a wonderful voice, and has fronted some of my favourite AF songs; "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)", "Black Wave/Bad Vibrations" and "Haiti", just to name a few. She really gets a spot though for being quintessentially Arcade Fire. By that, I mean, she's also a multi-instrumentalist; accordian, piano, drums, xylophone... she's brilliant, just like the rest of them.
Thanks for reading (if you did, haha), and POST people. POST.
