Well the start of the football season has been pretty damn awful. So in an effort to take our eyes away from the league table for a moment. Lets look forward to the start of the NHL.

Habs (The R/S of the NHL) V (The 2011 Stanley Cup winners!) Leafs is on Thursday night and Im so looking forward to seeing Phanef,Schenn, Komi, Orr and more destroy Jacques Martin's band of merry midgets in the season opener. Also with their star sniper Michael Cammalleri being suspended for the game (all 5' 9 of him!) I fancy the Leafs at Home to get the win.....I could be horribly wrong though.

Where do I see the Leafs at the end of the season? Well the only way to go is up from last season, I can't really see them making the playoffs...simply because are forwards aren't all that strong. However for the first time in years we have a decent Goalie situation with Giggy and The monster and our Defense is just so impressive. (However knowing the leafs we would be happy with our attacking play but have a terrible defense :/)

What to watch with the leafs? Colton Orr knocking Matt Carkner to the ice every time the Battle of Ontario happens.

How about the other teams?
How will the Blackhawks do after getting rid of a lot of their Stanley cup winning team.
Will the Detroit Red Wing's Golden Oldies deliver? How will Edmonton do with all their prospects?

Really looking forward to the season, though as a leafs fan I fear I'll be looking at Everton for sporting joy this winter.

Go Leafs go!

Thanks for this thread, be good to be kept updated with news from the NHL,

I have always played Football and Ice Hockey since I was a lad, back then I picked the Blackhawks as my team, my bro picked the red wings, chiefly because they had the most fights in EA hockey, however i always loved the atmosphere at Chicago, Jeremy Roenick, Chelios, Grimston were the guys I followed back then.

I do have a soft spot for the city of Toronto as I had the best Holiday ever there as a young single man!, and my uncle lives over there so they'd be my second team especially if they're playing detroit.

But I'll once again be rooting for the Hawks, and after winning their first cup in 50 years, I'm hoping for some sustained success, yes they got rid of some of the team, but they also kept a few, at least it keeps the league competitive.

And as I said on here in the summer, Ross County (my second team) got to the scottish cup Final, The Hawks won the Stanley Cup, Everton win the.....?? Come on You Blues!!!!

I'm hoping the Capitals aren't looking too far ahead to the playoffs already. We're not as good a team this year imo, but I do think we can win the Cup this year. (Watchout for Matheu Perrault this year if he makes the team. Hes really good)

Well to be fair you still have Patrick 'cabbie knocking' Kane, Toews, Sharp, Keith, Campbell and Hossa. You also have Viktor Stalberg, former Toronto boy, think he will do well for you. Really did impress with the Leafs (One of the tiny minority who did) last season, sad to see him leave but really happy with Versteeg, looked really good in pre-season. Versteeg-Bozak-Kessel<-- Think we might just have a half decent first forward line ;)

Also seeing Byfuglien in a thrashers uniform is quite depressing, poor guy plays an important part in winning the cup and he gets sent to Atlanta.

Any team with Ovi will do well, 60 goals this year eh? They certainly can win it, are they my choice for this year? Not my first choice thats for sure.....but like I said any team with Ovi are up there.

DEVILS! DEVILS! DEVILS! they are kinda like us. gritty, always pretty good. havent been great for awhile.

except we would never sign a player for $100million

LET'S GO BLUE JAYS LET'S GO! Wait, what??

Ahh Mate, went to a blue Jays game once...., best thing about it, foot long hot dog from McDonalds, a bucket of coke and the biggest portion of fries I've ever seen....think supersize but bigger....

Baseball is like cricket, a bit boring but with more colourful outfits

Yup I've been too. The Rogers Centre is by far and away the best sporting venue I've ever been to. Seriously impressive. I love baseball me, usually catch the Jays highlights online.

I don't know anything about hockey though, so carry on.

Yeah the Rogers is a beauty, been there loads of time, some family are into to baseball and the Bluejays. Great place.

Little known story about the Rogers:A hotel has some rooms look down on it and the crowd, the window's were not tinted and during one game the crowd in the Rogers could see a couple have sex against the window. Ever since then the windows have been tinted.

Back to Hockey. Canes win eh? 4-1 against the Wild. Great to have hockey back.

I can't keep up with the results very well over here, just let me know when it's worth googling a good hit/fight goal etc, and I'll check the standings. I may have to subscribe to espn, but its about £15 per month....
