DUMB & DUMBER (1994)
![]()
Even those who dislike Jim Carrey often applaud this film. Dumb & Dumber is everything a comedy should be - light-hearted, quick paced and utterly hilarious.
The chemistry with Jeff Daniels shines off the screen in a big way and, even though on paper the script seems mind-numbingly stupid, the overall conclusion is a completely memorable comedy epic with memorable scenes in abundance.
SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004)
![]()
It came from out of the blue and had the world laughing; Shaun of the Dead managed to upstage the Dawn of the Dead remake upon release with the genius idea of plopping a horror classic on a British suburb and playing on stereotype after stereotype.
ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE (1994)
![]()
Alrighty then! The Champion's League has become unexpectedly Jim Carrey heavy, but Ace Ventura was great. More than half a kids film, it's scenes like the mental institution - where he dons a pink tutu and jumps over a hedge - and the moment he finds out that he kissed a man, which prompts him to set fire to his clothes and run screaming into a hot shower...
etc. etc. Go on, be honest, you like Ace Venture. Admit it.
THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984)

'kin amazing comedy... Spinal Tap is a very clever send up of glam rock and beyond in the style of a mockumentary. So clever in fact that it genuinely fooled a lot of people into thinking it were a real band. Even today, people who didn't watch the movie think that Spinal Tap were a band they didn't listen to but were vaguely aware of.
Again, it's one of those "Bucket List" movies everyone needs to watch in my opinion.
AMERICAN PIE (1999)
![]()
It was massively overexposed, too many sequels and so many films were inspired by it that the whole genre it belongs to became cheesy, watered down and barely watchable - and yet for all that, it's worth remembering that American Pie was a genuinely funny, very original gross out teen comedy that defined a whole new genre.
That, and Shannon Elizabeth is spectacular.
