Stend

Player Valuation: £10m
So as Moyes comes to the end of his contract, the club find themselves in a decent position.

A good squad, 100 times better than the one Moyes Invested.

The prospect of a European Campaign next season.

A major asset clearly in the shop window that will bring a sale of Lescott/Rooney proportions. (Fellaini)

Additional TV money.

Firstly that asset is replaceable IMO. Cracking player but not someone who would leave us licking wounds. This summer is brighter than most think because we have the option to cash in and start another 5 year project whether that be Moyes or somebody else. The greatest thing of all is the fact that solid foundations are now built.

So why wouldn't Moyes take another 5 year plan with the Fellaini money in his back pocket and additional TV money to hand? He in a much better position than he was when he sold Rooney for the £25m mark.

As a club we're in a sound position come summer IMO

For me the diffence is that moyes used to want the job now it seems he might take it if nobody else wants him, I'm not convinced that's the right message .

Ageing, small squad though?

Jagz 30

Hibbo 32

Distin 35

Osman 31

Neville 36!

Pienaar 30

Howard 34

Exactly this.

Of Moyes stays, yeah he might get some Fellaini money to splash about, but If he is so easily willing to go elsewhere then is he the right man to spend it?

I'm just throwing the positives into the mix and they're very strong. Especially when matched up to the squad (age/ability) to when he took over. The last thing I want to see is Fellaini in an Everton shirt next season. The sale of him is the key to crack on. Another season and I can see his value dropping a lot

not good reading that, can see were stend is coming from a lot would depend on how much of the fee was given to moyes and any extra he might get dont think the felli money would on its own get us onto the next level, we would more than likely need at leat half of that to get a replacement in, after agents fee ect

I think people are going to get a shock when they see how much money clubs are actually prepared to pay for Fellaini.

It would keep us breathing down the necks of the elite IMO.

I agree with this a bit. I would be gutted to see him move on, as IMO he is our best player, or at least on a par with Baines. I dont think his value will drop dramatically, but I do thin that we are at peak value now. There will be a lump of cash burning a hole in many clubs pockets within the EPL, so we could start a biudding war. the opening line has to be, we know how much you have, how much are you willing to spend. the real trick would be to not allow that to happen to us.

I'm not sure I'd agree with the thread title really.

Yes, we have Baines, Pienaar and Fellaini but if one or two of those is injured or just "not up for it" then we are no better than we were when Moyes joined. Wigan wouldn't have beaten us 3-0 at Goodison ten or eleven years ago. So, 100 times better squad....I don't think so.

Fellaini...may well go for circa £25 million but may well be less and the Board may just have to let him go if his performances remain similar to the Wigan display where he showed that he just couldn't be bothered.

Europe next year....I'm not sure now. Arsenal will concentrate on top four finish and don't look likely to finish below fifth. Sixth place doesn't look good enough for Europe now due to the Cup Final draw and, in any event, Liverpool have more momentum now than we do and will finish above us. Sad but true I think.

The additional TV money.....well as everyone else is getting that we will not be better off in real terms as we are no more competitive at buying players than any other premier league club and will not have closed the financial gap on those teams above us anyway.

Lastly, we missed our chance of a new stadium, sold our training ground and are left with an ageing Goodison that is probably mortgaged to the hilt due to our rather large debts. We also made a trading loss for at least the last couple of years. Therefore, our infrastructure seems to be a damn sight smaller than it was even a decade ago.

I think that, rather than solid foundations, we are looking more like a house of cards. 'Tis a shame.

Very negative outlook.

Wigan win was a cup game it happens. If we played then tomorrow with the same team we'd probably win. The keeper problem hasn't helped.

Liverpool and Arsenal will have a go but European football isn't the end of the world anyway. Additional can and most likely will go against us.

I think Moyes neglected the long term future of the club a few years back and has been on a mission to try and get a better job ever since.

The average age of the squad (along with the wage bill) has been creeping up with each player contract renewal. Kids haven't been given a chance as a select group of experienced professionals have been used to stick to a gameplan week in week out.

Moyes said himself when he first arrived that he prefers to work with a younger squad of players, and he did just that. But a few Summer's ago he stopped a few players from leaving and took a gamble on the squad. It didn't work and it's ultimately proved expensive as a lot of the players mentioned above have lost resale value, and the kids coming through haven't been given enough of a chance to step in to replace them.

I'd be massively disappointed if he stays in all honesty. Bar that, I agree with the sentiments of the OP, if we got a new man in this Summer, he could use the Fellaini money and perhaps saved wages by letting a few other experienced fringe/not good enough players go, and bring in some fresh blood to hopefully change the dynamic of the side. Pace please!

Don't get that bit. He's done nothing wrong.

And I actually reckon if we played Wigan again tomorrow with the same team the same thing would happen. How many huge games do you need us to choke before you realise Moyes can't manage big games?

It's not negative. It's fact.
