Great side. Certainly responsible for the phenomenal support for United back in the pre-celebrity era.

Everton have often been United's opponent on the Anniversary week home game.

True that

I Remember we played you just after Sir Matt died

Had a minutes silence ( Everton fans were impeccable )

I remember my Grandfather telling me he cried when the news broke of the Munich Disaster. I told Sir Bobby Charlton this when I met him just before Christmas - the great man was so touched.

Like the commemorative days of other football disasters it is a day to pay respects, forget team loyalties, and remember in the simplest of ways that people went out to watch or play in a football match but did not return.

RIP

Fantastic post mate and exactly right

Very respectful thread on RAWK today.

Feel a bit ashamed it took a Utd fan to start one on here now.

Perhaps we should look at a reminder system for the Munich, Bradford & Rangers tragedies?

We dont really need one for Hillsborough.

RIP The Busby Babes.
Astonishing last league game for them the previous Saturday before flying to Belgrade when they won (from memory) 5-4 at Highbury.
I believe United entered the European Cup initially against the wishes of the English football authorities and did so on Matt Busby's insistence. Great foresight shown in developing the game across Europe and ultimately the world.

The original was by The Spinners - back in the day when Liverpool and Manchester folk got on a bit better.

Sad, I just remember it.

I also remember Parkie talking to Charlton ( gist ) and remarking on the randomness of who lived and who died... No surprise to me said Charlton. Everybody in the REAR facing seats survived.
The Elizabethan plane was one of the last to have rear facing seats.
I think even to day the Military Hercules transports have rear facing seats for greater chance of survival in landing / take off incidents.
