There was a programme on all about the Scandal including Tony Kay a good few years ago which appeared on BBC called The Fix. Would anybody out there happen to have a copy on dvd/video? Would love to see it again, i vaguely remember Ricky Tomlinson playing a part in it. Over to you!

Sorry, cant help you there. I remember seeing it, though. Ricky Tommo played an Everton supporter pestering 'Catterick' for match tickets. The play implied Catterick was corrupt and the club wouldn't cooperate with it on that basis. No doubt it'll roll around again on BBC4 in time when there's a another scandal.

The soft lad wasn't at Everton when all that was going on. Sheffield Wednesday I believe.

Although I'd have to ask LCAB (y) - I'm not old enough to remember ya'see.

I remember reading about Tony Kaye in Colin Harvey's book, he said that what he was accused of was betting on his own team to win, when he was a Shef Wed player, but it only came to light when he was at Everton and it ruined him.

I'm not sure betting on yourself to win is such a bad thing, but the game has to be seen to be whiter than white. We wouldnt want football to be like the cricket would we!?

No, he actually bet on his team to lose. It was before the maximum wage was abolished and players relied on their win bonus's to make up their money. Some would attempt to ensure a little extra income, even if they lost, by betting on the loss. He bet £50 (which was a big bet in those days) and won £150. The irony was that though Wednesday lost 2-0 to Ipswich that day, The Sunday People - the newspaper that would eventually break and sensationalise the story - voted Kay man-of-the-match.

A crying shame. Many will tell you that, had he been allowed to play on, he would undoubtedly have been in the world cup winning team, probably at the expense of Nobby Styles.

I was an extra on that series, you can see me banging a little too hard on Tonys vintage jag as he drives to the match.

£60 for 10 hrs of filming AND they cut my hair into a bowl head.

Never again
