I may have misunderstood, but aren't the Usmanov sanctions the reason we have no money?
Moshiri was always just a front, with Usmanov bankrolling the club through shady USM sponsorships and under the table deals with Moshiri's own businesses. Moshiri's net worth at the time of purchase was nowhere near enough to cover dropping half a billion Great British Pounds on transfers alone over this period.
The Russian Oligarch, who owns the worlds largest superyacht, having his assets frozen has means we cannot play in the transfer market without selling to buy. We needed to sell Lucas Digne to sack Benitez ffs.
Abramovich / Chelsea were able to save face and almost immediately solve the problem, as it was no secret Abramovich was the owner but could not spend another penny, and would have to vacate his position.
We needed Usmanov to be able to do the same, but the catch is he's not supposed to be the owner / one bankrolling us. We've gone all in on a underhanded Russian / Iranian deal, with BK somehow still steering the ship.
This result was inevitable. Moshiri clearly thought he would be able to dazzle BK with lots of money, a silent backer and Leicesters DoF, and let the lads play. Moshiri seems to have taken one look at BK and thought "oh, that's what a Premier League chairman does" and conformed. He became a duplicate of the problem, rather than removing and replacing it.
Claiming to the media that it was not his decision to make about Lampard's future should be the final nail in his own coffin. If you are are majority shareholder and still listen to BK, the fans will want you gone as well. No more "Yes" men.
The next 6 months will be torture on and off the field. We need to ensure when we start next season in the Championship, we are set up to have a clear run at finishing in the top 2 with the correct appointments in every single position in the club. If we miss this opportunity, we are a sleepwalking Sunderland.
