I work in paper manufacturing.
And we do recycled stuff, but the only difference in manufacturing is the trees.
Our carbon footprint is clown shoe size..
Anyone who has been to a paper mill knows that energy usage is by far the biggest impact paper has on the environment. Pulp starts as 95% water and finished paper is 5% water. That 90% has to be dried out.

The #1 rule to benefit the environment is to use less, of everything.

Paper is dried to 1.5% then size is added then dried again to between 4.5_7%.

I'm sorry if I sound pedantic.
And as for tissue production its 99% water then dried to dust

Turn off all your appliances at the wall, when that little red light is on your TV is still using 70% of the power it uses when its turned on.
That's a great tip. I usually unplug everything unless it has to be in use, such as the fridge. Cellphones is one item people always forget to unplug. Leaving cell phone chargers plugged into outlets draws energy from that outlet, even when the charger is not in use.

If you do drink water, fill it from the tap and save more money. ;) Would also be better for the environment if there wasn't all these factories bottling water.
I totally agree, Kev. I actually have a water filter at home so our tap water taste better and our reverse osmosis systems is also very effective in removing bacteria but tap water is definitely the way to go. I am with you about closing water factories too so it seems we are aligned with our thoughts :p

I'd like to do more to reduce my carbon footprint where possible and wondered if you lot have any recommendations?

It seems that being eco-friendly generally comes at a premium with many options being really expensive. For example, Who Gives A Crap bog roll is apparently £24 for 24 rolls.

To start things off here are a few things I've found:

Recycled loo roll in paper packaging: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/302533443?preservedReferrer=https://www.google.com/

Reduced plastic toothbrush heads: https://humblesmile.co/products/rep...tric-toothbrushs-sonicare-electric-toothbrush

Washing products (apparently standard liquids are harmful when flushed away): https://www.ecoverdirect.com/products/washing-up-liquid-1-litre/ewash1l.aspx?productid=ewash1l

Before I get abuse I'm no eco warrior by any means and am not pushing this on any of you. I just thought I'd see if there are any other things that people may recommend?

Ta!
I like your attitude mate and I think humanity needs to look at itself. The Native American Indians had the right idea until white man came along and stole his land.
We are guests on this planet, it’s about time some remembered.

Been an advocate of this for decades. My rules -

Don't buy tat.
Don't buy anything advertised - its tat.
Don't fly.
Buy locally, buy locally sourced if affordable.
Don't fly.
Buy seasonal stuff - don't expect fruit to be flown from the other hemisphere To satisfy a whim.
Don't fly.
Think twice before using a car - can you walk instead? Are you just going out to buy tat?
Don't fly.
Get off fridge/freezer dependency and go off-grid.
Use LED lights everywhere.
Don't fly.
Don't engage with the consumer culture, but make do and mend.
Don't fly.
Tell everyone else not to fly.*

*I'm reconsidering this after seeing what the great British holidaying public are really like during Covid. Get out of the country you litter dropping yobs ffs!

I may well have been on numerous transatlantic flights but please don’t lump me in with scruffs who litter.
