The idea that Jags and Distin can't form a good defensive partnership is the biggest load of I've ever heard. Since signing Distin's been every bit as good as Lescott, and, despite his hoofball and occasional lapses in concentration, Jags is clearly a quality defender. It shows when one is missing and Heitinga has to come in. Maybe if our midfield was better and the ball actually stayed up front when we played it there we wouldn't concede as many goals - not that we concede a lot at the moment. Views?

you have got a piont there mate if there is no pressure on the other team it invites pressure onto you, as such it makes your defenders look a bit hurried and not up to there job

Exactly, Jags and Distin dealing with 50% of 10 opposition attacks per game are going to concede more than another CB pairing who deal with 25% of 4 opposition attacks.

Distin is nowhere near the player Lescott was for us. The man was awesome for us.

Yes he was, but after a dodgy start I'd say Distin's been awesome too.

I think he's been good, but still nowhere near Lescott. We looked solid with Lescott, but seem to have hardly done so with Distin. Whether that's his fault, or Jagielka being not as good, I dont know.

I do agree that we let the opposition attack us far too much though. Best form of defence is attack

That I do agree with, we looked more solid with Lescott but I think that's because of the whole team - for example Pienaar doing far better defensive duties than Bily/Drenthe/Whoever's played left mid since.

Yeah, and Arteta holding the ball so well.

This this this this and this.

Any notice how when we went attacking against the skunks for the last 20 minutes, they didn't have a sniff?

I'm sorry to go slightly against the grain but Jagielka has been terrible this season. Heitinga had a bad game against Newcastle granted but Jagielka has been like it all season. I see he is still persisiting with his back header to the goalie which very nearly put the Newcastle striker clean through. I think Jagielka has had a chance to play himself into form and it has not worked yet. Heitinga has not had the chance to play himself into form. Distin has been very good maybe Duffy should get a go...

Lee. Carsley.

Has never been replaced, hence we ship goals.

Nothing to do with the defenders...although they do lapse in concentration at times

No offense mate, but that's crazy

This is just a non issue now. In two league games at centre back Heitinga has completely shirked his marking duties and needlessly put the ball into our net. I mean Jags scores own goals but they're usually last resort blocks or dodgy deflections, Heitinga got on the end of a tame cross that was headed into Howards gloves.

All those demanding for Johnny's immediate and long term reinstatement to the starting XI have now gone suspiciously quiet.

Jags and Distin are our best partnership, end of.
