This is the best thing I've heard in a long, long time. Americana at it's finest. This is the best thing they've done, and I think it will end up being one of the top 5 records of 2011. I love those guys. Saw them in concert back in the day in Athens GA. Loved all their work so far, especially "Castways and Cutouts" and "Her Majesty". I will most definitely check this out. Thanks!

It's different than their other stuff, but I was hooked immediately. It reminds me of the early R.E.M. stuff I grew up with (first three albums). Peter Buck from R.E.M. plays on three tracks.

I've got all of their early albums but kind of lost interest in them with that proggy one - The Hazards of Love, was it? I always think Colin Meloy has two or three great songs in him per album. The Sporting Life is one of the best Smiths pastiches I've ever heard and California One Youth And Beauty Brigade is truly gorgeous and strangely moving.

No they really do. Being a Smiths devotee I've always liked them, but this album is from left field and like I said earlier channels pre-Green era R.E.M. in a way that I really like. This one has more good songs than the other ones. There's really only one I don't like.
