My dad and I saw him win the Derby on favourite Sir Ivor back in 1968.
He left it quite late but once the horse hit top speed it was all over. Classic Piggott.
He was quite tall for a jockey.

just as a by-the-by: a mile is 8 furlongs and a furlong is 660 feet...so a mile is 5280 feet. A yard is 3 feet so there's 1760 yards in a mile.
There are 1.0936 yards to a metre so there's 1609.36 metres in a mile...or 1.60936 kilometres. So that's 4 circuits of 400m (Olympic) track, plus 9.36 metres.
