Depends if you're comparing him against the 'celebs' of today I suppose.
I suppose he is a 'real' celeb based on the fact that everyone in my family would know who he is, as oppose to some Instagram influencer that only kids know.
Years ago he played at the Sergeants' Mess of a family member. Didn't get any laughs so changed the set to smut. Got paid off. The Big Sam of comedy.

.....I recall you saying you regularly spoke to him on your deliveries, so I presume he lived in Bristol.

Large, whose real name was Hugh McGinnis, was born in Glasgow but grew up in Manchester. In recent years he lived in Portishead, near Bristol.

Lived in and around Portishead for 25 years, at least. Married a Bristol girl years ago.

Was a nice bloke, and we always had a natter about the football.

Loved watching Little & Large as well as Cannon & Ball back in the 80s. Probably quite dated now but made a lot of people laugh back in the day. Not something you could ever accuse Jimmy Tarbuck of.

I saw him a couple of times at Goodison when we played City, late 70s, early 80s like you say had a bit of banter with the lads, seemed a decent guy.
Also saw him with Syd topping the bill in Torquay, mid eighties, a young upstart called Michael Barrymore stole the show, whatever happened to him?
