Ooh no. Remember practising "Gilly Flicks" at school. (Glancing headers off of the temple for the uninitiated). Remember an article in Charles Buchans Football Monthly from c1964 which pointed out that "£72,500 Gilzean was once on Aldershots books while doing his National Service and never got a game."

I remember my auntie sent off for the Alan Gilzean Header Chart for me off the back of a cereal box. It was a large wall poster of goalpost and nets with a crowd behind, and on it were five circles...top and bottom left, top and bottom right and centre. You got a blow-up ball (Football sized black and white chequers). The poster was taped to my bedroom wall and you had to get your mate to throw it to you and head it alternately at each of the circles. Simple but damn good fun. Reckon it was around 1970.

...former British Foreign Secretary Lord Carrington has died aged 99. Carrington was Foreign Secretary when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982.

When I lived in Leeds in the1950's the Yorkshire Post was full of articles about the schoolboys Paul and Michael Madeley. They achieved a great deal in schoolboy honours and it was always obvious that Paul Madeley was destined for the big time. His brother Mike Madeley was also a good player and I played against him several times when he played for Farsley Celtic in the Yorkshire League. Mike gave up football to watch his brother at Elland Road. Paul played in every position except goalkeeper for Leeds. An exceptionally good player and probably the best 'club-man' in football history. RIP.
