The sound of GAA Sport on radio for most of my life. His commentary of All Ireland Hurling finals was mesmerising.

A wonderful human being as well.

I was one of a group of parents setting up a Gael Scoil thirty years ago and Michael used to compere race nights and table quizzes for us without charge. He might do it twice a year or so but he always remembered our names. He was brilliant like that.

My sister met him once when she worked in media, she absolutely loved him. She chanced her arm by dropping our grandfather's name in conversation (he was the goalie for Meath's first ever All-Ireland winning team in '49) thinking that he might not remember back that far. Not only did Micheàl remember him, he had all sorts of stories about him and his career she had never even heard before. RIP
