This guy of course was the manager of Benfica when they won the 1961 and 1962 European Cups. He wanted a pay rise from the Benfica board of directors.

They refused to give it to him and he then quit. Apparently he is supposed to have said not even in a hundred years from now, will Benfica ever be european champions again.

Since then Benfica have lost the 1963, 1965, 1968, 1988 and 1990 European Cup Finals. You can add three Uefa Cup/Europa League finals into the mix as well 1983, 2013 and 2014.

So is this run of ill luck in finals because of the curse or are Benfica just a bit unlucky? They still haven't lost as many finals as Juventus though.

Juventus have a record of nine appearances in Champions League finals and have only won two of them. A final between Juve and Benfica would probably end up with neither club winning it!lol

I’m sat outside the ground right now funny enough. One of the coldest days of the year here and there’s loads of jaundiced bigots going about in shorts.

Still though it's a fair old effort to go to the well that amount of times imo.

Poor Juventus two champions league final wins out of nine final appearances, and one of those wins was marred by rs fans causing the deaths of their supporters.
 

As somebody, a die hard scientist, who does not believe in deities, supernatural phenomenon or luck.... I am absolutely convinced as to the power of curses. Everton has done that to me. I've often said that what we need is an exorcism rather than any quality manager.
