The contract we gave Arteta

The Unobstructed View
When he got his last contract with us, did any players get given a payrise based on his new wage ?

you know the thing, the 'highest payed at the club' deal that they like.

Thing is, are any players still on that ? and if so, I think that they should now take a drop to either what they were on before, or the next highest earner in the squad.

It could save us some money.

I have no idea, i'm sure Heitinga was the highest paid player before Arteta. I doubt the other players contracts have changed because Arteta's left, the 75k wage we have got rid of by selling him is going to help reduce debts surely?

I think the entire team knows that we can't afford to give people ridiculous wages, especially with the chance they may underperform. Maybe his wage money was used on Drenthe and Denis?

Or for trying to pin Fellaini down on a new contract.

It should be this, we desperately need Fellaini to sign a new contract soon giving him as high a wage as we can afford if necessary. If not we should probably sell him relatively soon to avoid a Pienaar style situation.

unfortunately i do not see felli signing a contract. I think it will soon emerge that he "will wait until the end of the season" to commit, and if we have a bad season (e.g. don't get into europe) and there is no sign of new investment, then i don't think he will sign. And to be fair, I wouldn't blame him considering the clubs that are supposed to be interested in him

Point indeed. If this doesn't make us absolutely scramble to offer Felli the best wages possible on a new five-year contract, it would hint of a bit too much stubborn-ness. It really should be a major priority.

I'd actually flog him. Good player with potential, but also seems injury prone for the wages he wants to get so the risk/reward ratio for him is a bit too high especially when the player doesn't seem to be the loyal type anyway. He stays fit he puts in a transfer request or he's a permanent crock and he'll just leech two players worth of wages while playing half a players worth.

'Everton have to part with a cool £1M of the £10M fee Arsenal paid for the services of Mikel Arteta, as a pay-on clause from the club's original transfer deal with Real Sociedad kicks in.'
