The "Buzz"

This might sound mad but I think if the defence is solid enough this season, the attacking football will still be in the minds of players from Martinez which could be a good thing, he did play nice attacking football, it's a bit like Martinez first season when we still had Moyes' defensive mind state.

There was a buzz under Martinez. The summer after his first season, the big European wins, Wolfsburg twice etc... can we please stop with the rewriting of history now?

Martinez came in, had a boss first season and had us playing boss football. Then he got found out and wouldn't adapt and we went into sharp decline until it cost him his job.

Right now I'm optimistic and happy with the progress being made in what is really a transitional season. I actually don't have 'the buzz' yet.
I'll get the buzz when we've won at a couple of the top four grounds and finally won at the pit.Right now we are just beating teams any club looking at a top ten finish should be beating.

I am sat here trying to kill a bit of time and now I notice I've spent 20 minutes on YouTube just looking at all and anything Everton. I find myself singing along with some fan chants, youtube songs etc and I realise it's the first time in years that I feel like the 'Buzz' is back with us. I don't mean the on-field performance or the general love for Everton, just that "goosebump" feeling that you get when you watch stuff and the feel-good feeling that you get. Even when we had some good european games under Martienz (Wolfsburg x2, Young Boys away), good wins but just no real buzz about it if that makes sense.

I've felt a bit disconnected with Everton for maybe two or three years. I've had my season ticket, I went to Dresden in the summer but still didn't really feel the same feeling you get just from watching anything Everton. Even though we had a frustrating window (still a good one), it still feels like we are meaning a lot more business, more ambitious perhaps.

Has anybody had a similar experience? For me it feels like Everton are back both on the field and as a club as a whole. I'm only 25, so 'back' for me means being decent again, some of you won't consider us 'back' until we are winning trophies I suppose.

I can't describe it fully, that 'buzz' is just back for me. I can sit for hours sometimes and watch Everton on youtube, even the days before I was going (I was too young for 95) and take it in. I haven't sat down in years done that. Maybe a combination of Moyes' negativity and Martinez stubborness poured water all over that fire.

Maybe im talking rubbish, I dont know :)
Love this post mate, it's far from rubbish, I get you, I feel like jumping up and down with excitement.

I agree.

I too had switched off over the past year and just didn't seem to care as much as i should have done. Especially come the start of February this year, knew my enthusiasm had gone and Martinez was the terrible manager i knew he was a year prior.

This year i am actually looking forward to seeing us again. And it isn't because we are winning, it is down to the manager 100%. Knowing he is a competent manager who knows what he is doing and is demanding the best from us, that makes me massively optimistic for the coming seasons. We might not win anything, might not break the top 4, might even struggle to finish top 6 even. but the fact we have a manager who at least is getting the basics right and demanding more from the players than they have had before, that makes me love this team all over again.

The icing is the fact that any player not looking up for it seems to be dropped, not given free rides ala niasse and cleverley.

I understand where you're coming from mate but I wouldn't call it a fully blown "buzz" yet; maybe a semi!!. TBH this started for me at the Norwich game last season.

Like you, last time I had a real buzz was in RMs first season and it was after we went to Old Trafford midweek and won, then went to the Emirates and out-passed Arsenal at home. Although we never won the game, that first 45 was the best football I've seen us play since the 80s and neutrals sit up and take notice. Arsenal fans generally have had a lot of respect for us since that game. I started to believe again and genuinely wasn't worried about playing anybody.

Whilst it's so far so good for Koeman, he's only done what we would have expected so far, although I accept that's easier said than done. The litmus test will come in the 7/8 game run starting against Man City. Come through that in reasonable nick and maybe I'll think differently. At the moment there's still that slight apprehension before games that we'll do "an Everton".

The results so far have been good but it's more of a general feeling about the club rather than being happy we are winning.

Also worth noting, while we 'expect' points against Sunderland, WBA and Stoke, how many times have we started the season with a decent run of games and got maybe 5 points from 5 rather than a solid 10 points from 4? Not just under Martinez but under Moyes too.

Past two years it's been a case of 'dragging' my self to Goodison rather than the week going extremely slow because I'm dying to get back there.

An example of what I've found myself watching, I wasn't even born when this happened yet i find it exciting.

OMG! Thank you for posting that - it's made my Friday morning in work!! I was 11yrs old during that time and a season ticket holder with me dad and me sister.

I remember vividly almost all of the games - the Sunderland (Reid's cross Gray) game, the Bayern Munich ECWCSF 2nd leg, I can remember thw QPR (h) game where we clinched the title - I can recall lads standing on hoardings at the park end - just crammed into Goodison. I can remember the 5-0 drubbing of Man Utd we were late to the game as we had to pick up some Adidas Lendl Court trainers, running to the ground we missed Sharp's opener, but caught the rest.

Oh the days!!
