carry on the same way its not working but carry on, the goverment of this country just hasnt got a new idea between them, growth down, borrowing up, one penny a litre off a few monthes after putting three on wow, politics in the uk is well and truly a busted flush, wish a modern day guy fawlkes would blow the lot of them up, we need a new direction and not the tired ****e the major parties churn out, bring on the genrals viva reverlution

Must admit i thought it was funny as Osbourne regaled the 1p saving on fuel he seemed to have forgotton about the VAT on petrol a few weeks back.

Truly this is a dangerous government growth forcast revised down, inflation begining to run rampant, unemployment rising(with the real force of the cuts to take effect) and all of this has been managed in 10 months surely while there has to be deficit control has to be of prime concern, its clear now the slash and burn econimics being used just arent working a more measured way of bringing it down was the safest way to bring the country back to health.

Of course if everything turns out rosy in the next couple of years and things turn around then Osbourne will be hailed as a genius but given we're still not clear of the mess the banking crisis caused 3 years on i just dont see it.

take a long time to get out of this mess. even if things looked a bit more better the world economy would drag us down, hard times ahead im afraid, dont think osborn will survive after next year once the cuts hit and growth stalls he is a goner.

I think you're right Edge it's sheer folly to try and clear the deficit so fast i just can't see it working this isnt about being Labour or Tory this is about common sense a controlled tightening of the public purse was what was needed not this "shock and awe" tactics of last summers budget and spending review.

Now it seems the credit rating agencies are getting twitchy saying if growth is downgraded even more then yet more cuts would have to happen,i thought the whole point was to stop this happening hence the VAT rise and the assault of peoples living standards and the cuts that will lead to yet more unemployment.

As for Osbourne he's fine as long as "callme dave" is in charge,i'll say this i would much sooner have had Ken Clarke as chancellor he's been through this before when we bumped through the last recession back in the 90's he was firm but fair and set the course of fairly settled economic climes

think the little problem of the bank of england and the inflation will throw a spanner in his works and the fact that the speculation in the markets on basic food stuffs wheat, coffee has grown rather than the normal gambles on the financial markets will make the cost of living a lot higher, so it all pionts to infation , as you say linglong not the time for massive cuts , some maybe but to have cuts while increasing borrowing maddness, no fan of new labour by the way but this lot are a shambles

There's probably never been three worse overall politicians in history than Cameron, Osbourne and Pickles. Pickles is the worst of the three actually but gets little coverage and is very much "behind the scenes".

That said, the budget was actually OK, as in it was completely neutral. Everything he gave gets taken back elsewhere, of course. The fuel "reduction" is the biggest con, as it won't come out of the price at the pumps in any way whatsoever. The tax bracket expansion is covering a lot of hits to the public really.

To see if you'll be better off, there's a calculator on this site:

I'd spend it on another island somewhere warmer and with a few more hills for good measure.

And with an engine so you can drive it around.

it's sheer folly to try and clear the deficit so fast

it was well documented that `shock` tactics would be detrimental to the economy. this is a set in stone policy of the tories and they will never change.they cause mass-unemployment to keep wages down

I have to agree with you over the gruesome 3some,frankly Pickles is only a fob watch away from being a victorian mill owner.

As for fuel Osbournes going to watch the prices..how exactly? they can mask the cost as "normal" price rises you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be charged more than the nonsense "saving" an utter con.

It does offer something for small businesses at least. We shall see, they reckon that the strategy will allow growth of nearly 3% in a few years but then the government have revised their figures twice already since taking office. Pretty low key budget all in all.

Trouble is they keep revising things down, the tories always used to go after Brown/Darling for over exaggerated growth figures and here we are again only difference now it's the tories doing the exagerating, just today the figures released show retail sales fell again in febuary not a good sign it's getting out of control now of course it was going to be a bumpy ride even if the more stable and sensible way of cutting the deficit was in place.

We can only hope Osbourne has a plan B.
