I'd never thought of it like that but what a great observation!

In typical years it has been half of the crews are British and the other half are typically American and a few others sprinkled in.

You do realise that Oxbridge is one of the most lefty institutions in the world? Look at their GE2015 and EU referendum results. Most of the students are heavily left wing. The Tory stereotype remains from the 19th century of course.
