The Big Six (A Total Myth)

Sky have just quoted a statistic about the geordies versus 'The Big Six'.
Presumably, Leicester and Sheffield United are part of this elite group now since the mancs can't string two wins together and Arsenal are currently a very flattering 11th place.
Or do you retain your status as one of the big six no matter how dire you are?
Just a thought.

I’d guess that the “big six” isn’t based purely on performance and is focused on a number of factors collectively.

Essentially, it appears the rationale for “The big six” tag is that they are the six “biggest” clubs in the league in terms of history, recent consistent success, stadia size, fanbase, finances etc.

It was the Big 4 until Liverpool and then Man Utd started finishing outside those parameters.

Basically it's the Big (insert number here based on the positioning of Sky favoured clubs) and can fluctuate to their choosing.
Is right!
For example, Arsenal versus the mancs, if it was this weekend, would have been a poor 9th placed team playing an even poorer 11th placed team.
But those wonderful people at Sky would've still billed it as a MASSIVE game!
Perhaps it'll be 'The Big Seven' next season when Carlo really starts to make his mark. Or are we not cool enough to be part of their elite little band?

'Recent consistent success'?
That's the rs and Spurs out of the big six then.

How’s that mate? Spurs have finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and reached Champions League and League Cup finals in that time.

I think it’s fair to say Liverpool have been, sadly, consistently successful in the last couple of years.

To be fair as much as I'm not a fan of the way Sky hype up certain teams it's up to ourselves to become part of the conversation. We've had the money, fanbase and history to take the next step for a while but we've flattered to deceive on many occasion.

If you were to pick a big six teams over the last 10 years it would be them. If you were picking the top 6 for next season you would probably pick them even though there is usually a surprise package like Leicester this year.

Was a very brief time a few seasons ago that Sky had a photo of Marco Silva in with the other bosses of the “Big 6” and intimated at a “Big 7”
Of course history will record ...

It was normally “the big x” based on how far liverpool we’re down the table. 4, 5, 6, 7. It’s now just the monied clubs.
