Don't people remember last season? This year we just gave up, last year we didn't get started until about February.
Not really.
Despite the nonsense peddled about the EL campaign stymying our league campaign, we were doing all right in the league up until we came back from Wolfsburg with the EL group done and dusted.
We were about sixth or seventh and on a decent little run......and with the old "favourable run of fixtures" in December all looked good for a move toward the top four.
Then we went to Spurs on the Sunday, gave away a lead and it was all downhill clean through to a mini revival in late February as you say, coincidentally when the EL group stage had already commenced.
Hull at home on a freezing night in early December heralded what was to come over the next two or three months.
Even the solitary victory we had in that period, versus QPR at home, was mind numblingly boring and was the first game the boos started and let's be honest, the alarm bells began to ring about what lay in front of us over the next sixteen or seventeen months.
And counting
Then at the turn of the year the Polls started after every match and the nascent "Plotters", then a mere voice in the wilderness, were shouted down with their Cassandra like cries of deep foreboding
By myself among others
But no, I have never bought into the idea that the EL had a particularly adverse effect on last season.
