I thought it would be a lot longer since it took Everton this many matches to get to 40 points, but last year was actually worse.

It was masked and blamed on a good Europa campaign, this year the excuse is 2 domestic cup semi's, imagine we only had the league to think about? We'd be phenomenal (really starting to hate that word)
