Here is what many believe to be the greatest album ever made? This one should provide some interesting discussion!

...As a certain story goes, a listless Brian Wilson had heard Rubber Soul, completely obsessed with its quality, he in turn was inspired to write Pet Sounds.

...Apparently then a certain Paul McCartney, having heard the sheer delight of the aforementioned, set out to completely out-do anything that had gone before, and set off with the Fab Four to alter music history forever...This is half fact/half conjecture, so please, update this thread with anything similar.

I studied this entire album for my A-level music class and thus, I adore it, front to back. Any eclectic sounds that were merely hinted at on Rubber Soul and Revolver fully came into realisation on this one, whether it's the Indian-binge George Harrison was seemingly on, or the sheer avant-garde-ness of Day in the Life that John Lennon would explore on his first few (fucking dreadful) solo efforts.

My favourite tracks?

1. She's Leaving Home.
2. Fixing a Hole.
3. Good Morning, Good Morning.
4. Getting Better.
5. Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite!

DISCUSS!!

How come we haven't got a version of this? I'm sure some enterprising soul could make a few quid knocking them out.

I listened to this album while tripping once and thats the way it was intended to be heard. Another brilliant album with some great tracks on. Lovely Rita, A Day In The Life and Fixing A Hole. Classic stuff that really did change music for ever and no other group could match it. I wouldnt say it was theyre best though. Probably number 2 for me right behind Revolver.

Great album. I particularly like Lucy in The Sky and When I'm Sixty Four, although every song is a belter. Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields would have been on it if a record company bloke hadn't got his way

Just a thought. A lot of bands started great and died away with album quality.
The Beatles just seemed to get better and better. This, White Album and Abbey Road, all class.
