FACE/OFF (1997)

The greatest achievement that Face/Off achieved is that it had two leading roles and both of them excelled to a ridiculously high standard to pull off one of the greatest action films ever seen.
The premise, like most action movies, is beyond silly. FBI agent takes the face of a dead master criminal to infiltrate his gang in prison etc. and then it goes horribly wrong and the film takes on a life of it's own. Travolta is playing Cage, Cage is playing Travolta, everything gets confusing but throughout it all is an element of suspense rarely seen in a genre where the outcome is usually very predictable.
It deservedly destroyed the box office, pulling in over $150m as it dominated the cinema-going public throughout the summer of 1997. Amazing film.
THE DARK KNIGHT (2008)

Bale has the title role of Batman, but the film is undoubtedly stolen by a quite frankly unbelievable performance from Heath Ledger. The pin-up, who had earlier been known for soppy crap like A Knight's Tale, shows his true talents by pulling off the Joker to a level where it's quite frankly impossible to imagine it being done any better ever again.
The film itself oozes atmosphere and the lore of the Batman franchise has never before been so accurately stuck together in a way which pleases old school fans and newcomers alike.
It made over a BILLION dollars in the box office as Christopher Nolan cemented his place as one of the leading directors of all time.
