The echo doing a brief piece of players the genius of Walsh and Koeman went for in their first stint in charge.

And no...it still makes you feel ill

The thing is this summer just gone was just as bad.

We spent near £115 million and have near enough nothing to show for it. Add in the near identical fall into into relegation trouble that Koeman and Silva did you could argue Brands is a very lucky boy to still have a job & that Ancelotti came on board and not someone like Moyes.

Wasn't it the following summer that ruined us? The one where people were creaming themselves because we had sold Lukaku and bought Klassen and Pickford?

The blow back is less harsh as there's still value in what we brought in, they're young, have resale value.

Koeman and Walsh mainly had discussions about which 30 year old on £100k a week do you want to go for

Brands is all style no substance.

It wasn't just that window though. The next one was far far worse and we've made mistakes every summer since Moshiri came.

Had to laugh at the comment in that article about Ronko playing golf the day before the window shut lol

In fairness (and believe me I do not like defending Koeman and Walsh) the signings of Lookman, Vlasic and Onyekuru were theoretically more forward thinking than what Brands has done. In the main we've signed players in their mid 20s under Brands, rather than youngsters with massive development potential. We undoubtedly signed some players at the wrong end of their careers at that point, but they did bring in plenty of players who were young and should have had resale potential. Unfortunately they just weren't very good. It still remains to be seen how much resale potential some of the more recent purchases have. The likes of Kean, Mina and - through no fault of his own - Gbamin have likely seen their value take a pretty big dive since they came here.
