You could move a thread that's degenerated to the point of "almost" being closed. When it get's moved to the "popcorn" thread, it let's you know it's about ten posts away from being closed.

If arguments aren't moderated, then they would just boil over onto the main forum. Letting things run would end up with members permanently at each others throats. There is a difference between banter and arguments, and it's the arguments that can get ugly on forums. This forum has much more of a social club feel to it, where the members are predominantly friendly and welcoming, and most of this comes from the forum having a strict policy. It might be detrimental to the forum if the goal posts were changed. Having a 'no nonsense' approach is what makes this forum a great place to hang out. Do we really want it to become like Blue Kipper?
