I recall that Chris Nichol was the centre half who scored that goal. But it was the equaliser (1-1). Brian Little put them 2-1 up. And got the winner (3-2) when Darracott and Lawson 'miscommunicated'!! Devastatng end to the saga.
Yeah I remember now,Nicol with the long range shot that Lawson should have stopped ,the second wasnt it played under the keeper as he ambled out,god i despise Lawson

Jaycee is correct about the winner but Chris Nichol's goal was their first, equalising big bob's first half opener.
We led from Latchford first half, they scored two quickly around 80 mins then mock Lyons equalised for us into Stretford end cue the most amazing scenes. We threw it away in Extra time. Ok cross from their right our left looked like Darracott on from post would just clear it but he suddenly let it go, it went across face of goal to Brian Little to score.. 3.2 heartbreak. And that was with Clive Thomas still to come....and Rs won league I think and their first European cup!!!! OMG hard time to be a blue those few months.
Sunderland also relegated on last game of season at Goodison!!!

Yeah mate,Jimmy Hill got the kick off times changed,Sunderland thought they were safe, all on the pitch at the end!!

Wasnt that because Billy Butler read the score out saying one of them had one,the match kicked off late due to crowd congestion and Coventry n Bristol played out the last 10 minutes doing nothing

I think you're right mate, they basically did play the last ten just passing it around as they both knew they were safe, bet the Sunderland fans were thinking as one in the words of Blakie off "On the Buses"......"I hate you Butler";)lollol

My childhood memories of him: technically decent when he had time on the ball; mistake ridden when he was pressured. Poor old Tel would have hated playing these days.

Not one of Huyton's greatest exports to Everton.

I was there too as an 8 year old with my dad and uncle. Absolutely heart breaking. My dad was Terry's milk man at the time and asked him what went on. We thought we heard a shout from Brian Little and Terry confirmed that he heard 'leave it' and thought it was from Lawson. I've been shouting cheat at the telly ever since whenever Little was commentating.

One of the best photos ever was taken of Mick Lyons after he scored the late equaliser for 2-2 into our end (Stretford end).
Pure Evertonian desire and passion and refusal to give up. I am sure it will appear in the Everton pictures thread soon enough!!!, could have cried for us, could have cried for Lyons...decent team when it played well, did not know how to get over the line when the chips were down. Very very exciting times to follow them home and away though.

Something happened either a bobble or a shout but the point is that turd Lawson watched it rolling across the 6 yard box,we went on two great cup runs,he was at fault for the goals we conceded that left us empty handed yet TD takes the rap for it

That picture is on one of the programmes later that season. I'll look it out. The 70s are summed up by that photo. Mick Lyons.... Definition of what an Everton captain should be.

Every picture I remember as a kid of big Mick he would have blood(blue blood;):))pouring from another wound, maybe not the greatest player in our history but Christ you'll never find a bigger Evertonian.:)

Remember the chip by McRedmott at Maine road in the semi final, jeez he was stood on the penalty spot!!
Exactly Dario, have a look at the two games from the fa cup semi, then add the goal in the 1-1 Villa replay and the 3 that won it for them,if he played nowdays he would have been hing from the crossbar, one of our biggest mistakes was not replacing West with a top class keeper, cost us a couple of trophies at least

My old fella once told me we signed him on the back of him having a blinder at the RS,bloody expensive mistake, mind you we had Dai the drop too;):)
