I always thought that the Corinthians reference was in relation to the people of the ancient city of Corinth who apparently had a reputation for not giving up and fighting to the death. But I could be wrong.

Everything about Brian has already been said. That he was the skipper of the 1970 title winning team which contained a lot of great players tells you all you need to know.

Thats the story I vaguely remembered. Interesting.

As others have mentioned, the Corinthians were an amateur team from the 1800's. They played to what they called the "Corinthian spirit" which was to play fair, treat opponents with respect and never look to take an unfair advantage. As examples of this, they refused to take penalties (or would deliberately miss) and if an opponent was sent off they would take one of their players off also. To call someone a Corinthian is to say that they play fair, respect the opposition etc. as the original Corinthians did.

Thanks that was well put mate

Dario, Labby and Hurst were..
We of the certain age herald the likes of Bally,Kendall and Harvey being the Holy Trinity and they where a beauty to behold.

I have been watching the blues since 1958 and he is without doubt the best centre half i have seen, Dave Watson next and Stones could be up there if he reaches the level he should.

I was walking past the main stand after the Carsley derby and everybody was giving a great rendition of grand old team etc... all bouncing around and the atmosphere was brilliant. Just to the side a door was open in the main stand and there was Labby with the biggest grin on his face cheering singing and clapping everyone on. I darted straight over to shake his hand and he gave me a big hug, Loads of others clocked him and were all over and he was happy as larry just hugging and singing with everyone. His absolute joy at beating the [Poor language removed] and the fact he came down from the directors box to celebrate with the fans says it all for me, genuine Evertonian and top top feller;)
