Technology or 2 refs?

Milk

Udderly delicious
Quite a few years ago, it was proposed that due to the speed of the modern game, 2 referees should be on the pitch (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ar...The-age-referees-match-takes-step-closer.html) one in each half

Alternatively, why doesn't football follow other major sports such as rugby, cricket & tennis and introduce line technology and VT to a 5th ref sitting in the stands for an instant review of goals, bad tackles, and other incidences.
I would even go further and have the ref miked up so TV viewers can hear what is being said.
Surely the multi-billion pound industry of football shouldn't have wrong decision being made in 2016?

Personally I'd prefer an additional ref in a prime viewing spot in the stand, offering a better perspective on the game. I wouldn't want them to have video reviews, I just don't like the idea of any sort of halt of play for review. But I think an official with a broader view of the field could really help the ref. And I'd want that official to have pretty much the same powers as the ref. If they say it's a sending off, the ref needs a really good reason to disagree.

TBF, once they sorted out the TMO issue at the recent rugby world cup, the VT ref worked like a dream as you could hear him relaying messages to the on field ref. Whilst I agree that there is nothing worse than stop start (cf American "Football"), it would take only seconds to review a goal before the restart.

Goal kick anyone? :)

Depends how complex the incident is. Would the ref have gone all the way back to Funes Mori's debatable foul on Aguero for our goal? How do you decide which incidents to review?

Whilst not an RU fan in general, I find that TMO thing a pile of rubbish. They seem to want to find any reason to disallow the try. Such a negative approach to the game.

Each team should have 1 challenge per game for incidents, goes to a video ref he says yay or nay then that's the end of it

Video review for goals. Wouldn't take any time and it's a deadball situation anyway. Quick video review by an official on a TV monitor would show if it was offside, out of play or an infringement without any stoppage to the game. Easy. This could maybe be applied in red card situations where play is stopped and ref is trying to decide if a tackle was yellow/red offense.

How about one competent ref?
How about rewinding 30 years and taking the rules back to their bare bones. The offside rule is a joke now, as is the handball rule.

Refs and linesmen only struggle because they're expected to be superhuman at times. Yes there are some incidents which are inexcusable, but many are because it's so hard to apply the law.

In theory could work but what if the ref on the pitch was Mike Jones and the one in the stand was Martin Atkinson? ;)
