Team Spirit?

Everton defender Leighton Baines says a strong team spirit will help his side through their current injury crisis. Just how many points a season is 'Team Spirit' worth though?. How many points have we won through team spirit alone this season?.

To be honest, i think it has wained in recent seasons, teams can out ewverton us now the likes of Bolton and Wolves as we have seen, with added quality we have lost some of the bite, commitment and endevour that was a part of our success pre 2008.

we won plenty last season mate when we had no strikers and it was 'dig in' time, as supporters we are in the trenches and have to do our bit, in both willing our lads on and putting the opposition off their game.

Obviously we are confined to our trenches and not allowed 'over the top' but I for one will be lobbing tit-grenades at the opposition from now until the season ends, the proof that it works for me is the "wave ashley, wave" incident.

Pity El Haj Diouf isn't still a Blackburn player, what barrackable player do they have?

There definitely are players there who 'get it' - hibbert, osman, baines, jags, cahill etc. I think team spirit does count for a fair bit. I guess to be fair though I don't know if there is any 'clique' in the dressing room and whether that unsettles/undermines any of the other players resulting in worse performances. From the little I have read I hear Everton is meant to be pretty good at making everyone feel like we are one big family and that the team spirit is good. Neville is meant to be good helping new players settle in and I wouldn't be surprised if senior players like Arteta and Cahill also help the younger lads gel with the rest of the team. I always heard Carsley and Tommy G were good for team spirit and banter. So now I have finished rambling and to answer the poster's question I think team spirit counts a lot! Plus you always see successful managers like Mourinho and Taggert go on to the media about an 'us v the rest of the world mentality', I'm sure Moyes must say something to that effect at times.

It obviously means something to the players, to quote a couple of recent comments:
Jagielka: "People might be writing us off, but we have a good team spirit and the lads who haven't had much game time are getting it now."
Neville:"the team's recent success is down to a strong team spirit and togetherness in the face of a lengthy injury list"
