Table tennis

What is ping pong Jazz?. Wen I googled it, it said table tennis. Which is what I initially thought.
You play ping pong with hard bats , typically wood with just a covering I'd pimples rubber.
A table tennis bat is also made usually of wood ( can be carbon fibre ) but difference is it has a piece of sponge ( usually 2mm) between the wood and the rubber. The rubber on a table tennis bat is often ( but doesn't have to be ) smooth with the pimples inverted.
As a result you can impart much more spin and speed with a table tennis bat.
When I play TT I stand close to the table and play an attacking / topspin game.
If I play ping pong , which I only do for a laugh , I'm not skilled enough to hit topspin ( very few can you have to have wonderful technique) and I stand back from the table and chop ( defend with backspin).

League Handicap final for my team on Tuesday. We have to give a big start. Hopefully they won’t be able to get our serves back
I love the handicap cup. This week my team , which won Division 1 played our lowest ranked team . We gave them a bunch of points. We play 5 games of 11 ( with no deuce ) and 8 singles matches. After all that we lost by 1 point , 1 bloody point!!!! And I served off twice. Great game though.

Good luck. I get a lot of success with serves against lower ranked players but if they get it back I am sometimes reluctant to for 3rd ball attack as the margin for error is so narrow. I just try and keep the ball on the table and let them make the mistakes unless it's an easy kill ( and then invariably I miss it! It's always the harder ones I make when I don't think about it).

So basically table tennis with cheap bats. I've played both. In fact I once played ping pong against a guy playing table tennis and he absolutely battered me. lol Mind you, after the first game I complained about my wooden bat with rubber pimples on it, so we swapped bats and he hammered me again. lol

Cheers. I’m generally ok in handicaps against lower teams as I’m steady and like you say, just keep the ball on the table. Where I struggle these days, as a defender, is not being able to get as much backspin on pushes, which means it’s easier for flat hitters. Before the balls changed players would have to loop and I’d chop but that seems to have gone out of the game. Tried all sorts of rubbers to try and get more spin but end up going round in circles. Back playing with tackiness at the moment

Did you like the Moody Blues though? I took a guess that you did.
Interesting that Mr SC is a fan.
To be honest Jazz I've not really listened to them extensively. just their popular songs. They were a little before my time. Although i did get into some earlier bands like The Strawbs and Wishbone Ash, I didn't with the Moody Blues. I will make a point of listening to that album though because i'd probably like it. Absolutely love War of the Worlds though. Had the vinyl, got the CD and we went to see the touring stage show twice.

I loop on my forehand and apart from countering don't do much on my backhand.
I use Tenergy on FH and MXP on backhand.
I need to change the rubbers anyway so going to experiment with long pimples on BH just as a disruptor to set up my forehand.
No great expectation that it will work for me and I will have to learn how to twiddle.
Suspect I will start next season with a similar combination to what I gave now.

In Search of The Lost Chord is a great album by them if you have never heard it.
