EFCTim Cahill

Player Valuation: £2.5m
I think he's been our most consistent player so far this season, he looks as though he's taken his impressive end to last season and pre-season form into this season and he's been excellent in our games so far, anyone else agree?

Yes I agree...but I'd still rather Heitinga there.

I would agree to Heitinga playing if Distin or Jags weren't up to scratch but, they are and I see no need to break those two up and take away the balance of height and a left foot, the one a game we've been conceding hasn't on the main, been those two's fault.

Yeah he's been a rock. If I were less of an internet snob I'd write out a team here with a Heitinga-Jagielka-Distin back three and Coleman and Baines as marauding wing-backs. Can't be seen to be doing that kind of [Poor language removed] though.

Sorry to wade in and piss on the bonfire but I can't agree with these superlatives.

We've played Blackburn, Wolves, Huddersfield and a demented Aston Villa. Have we kept a clean sheet yet?

For me, our starting centre backs have to be the English International and World Cup Finalist.

Clearly that view is because he's a Frenchie, admittedly he's no Ian Marshall but then he's also no Sacha Distel either.

I'm sorry, but you have 4 defenders. You can't plonk blame on all of them when you concede, or when you don't.

Distin, wasn't at fault for all 3 goals, and has spared our blushes himself a few times.

Goal 1 - Blackburn: Howard clanger.
Goal 2 - Brum: Quick breakaway, due to mistake by "world cup finalist" Heitinga and Saha. You can't blame anyone else for it going in, as we were outnumbered and they took their chance well.
Goal 3 - Villa: Fellaini slip, and Jags getting sucked in to leave a void in which L Young slipped into, and scored.

Defensively though, they've all been playing well. Distin and Baines being the highlights. It's just been a case of silly unforced errors, and the opposition taking their chances well.

Not his biggest fan at all, his long-ball distribution is piss-poor also.

Better than Jags' and Yobo's hoofing. On occasion, Distin's long balls have lead to goals. Jags' never lead to anything but enemy possession. And Yobo's... well the less said the better. Heitinga is the only one of the 4 who truly plays a longball, not a hoofball.

The point was, radio... is our defence hasn't been all that against lower opposition so the praise for one central defender is a tad over the top - in my opinion.

He had too many shockers for me last season - the "accident waiting to happen" feeling won't go just yet on the back of a few acceptable performances.

But each to their own.

I was about to disagree and then I saw the league table. Perhaps Distin being our most consistent player explains why we are where we are...

But seriously, no. Our most consistent player has probably been Baines, but to say that Distin has been excellent after the Wolves and Villa goals - and considering that we (and Stoke) have conceded in every league and cup game we've played - is somewhat wide of the mark.

People tend to forget that Distin was rated as one of the best defenders in the league when we bought him and at the start of his spell with us people were saying he was a better player than Lescott, it was only that he got an injury in December that he took a while to recover from that he turned in a couple of dodgy performances but from march onwards he's been our best defender imo.
