Alan Irvine set up the structure. The two post holders since then have carried on. .

Alan Irvine played a pivotal part in our Academy's development and in building on and continuing our reputation. There was an article the other week (OS ?) saying that our U9 and U12 teams had won 2 of the 4 age groups at a National Futsal Tournament. Irvine was probably the key person in introducing Futsal to Everton 3 or 4 years ago.(Futsal at this level is an indoor 5 a side game with a ball that doesn't bounce as high as normal and aids in skill development. Its touted as being much used by the Spanish and Brazilians) An innovative thinker very much in line with our tradition.

Watched the match last night and really enjoyed it. Considering this was their best team, had two overage Swede internationals with over 100 caps between them playing (one of who scored twice) and they are top of the league, I thought we really gave them a football lesson over the 90 mins. Given we have 7/8 of our top under 21 players on loan too, it really shows just how much depth of quality we have coming through at this level.

Take out the mad 60 seconds when they scored 2 goals from corners (by the way have you ever seen corners like them; almost impossible to defend, lets sign up that number 7 quick before somebody else does), there was so much to admire. First half sort of even but deserved to be at least on level terms. Second half we totally bossed it against a much older and more experienced team. Really impressed by Pennington at the back, Williams and Davies in midfield, and Dowell has to be given an opportunity in the first team soon. Great at set pieces. Liked the look of Rodriguez too. Galloway had a stinker at both ends, but I can't attach too much blame to him for those wicked corners. Even enjoyed the punch up at the end. Shows the have bottle and hate losing but what would you expect from a team packed full of local lads.

Thought it was a good interview at then end with Unsy who, whilst pleased, really laid into our defending of corners. Also thought their manager was very honest admitting they were outplayed for large parts. Refreshing to see from both managers. Can you imagine that sort of honesty from RM and big Sam?
