beckford was free - rhodes would be far from that hence not worth the gamble - has the lad even played in the prem yet?

Crystal Palace captain Scott Dann is on the Blues’ radar but the ECHO understands Ogbonna remains Martinez’s first-choice.

Genk centre-half Kara Mbodj is also on the Catalan’s list but it is the Juve defender who Martinez is prioritising.

The Echo seem to be taking a scattergun approach to rumours.

Every day, two or three players are linked to us. Even allowing for a bit of duplication I'd guess they'll have linked between 60 to 80 players with us by the end of the window, of which what, maybe 5 or 6 might actually join at most ? If that's how it pans out, that'd make them less reliable than The Metro.

Around about the £8m rumoured I'd say. They can say he's worth £10m+ all they want but at the end of the day he has two years left on his contract and if the rumours are to be believed he wants a move to Merseyside. And he's not worth over £10m anyway.

If they refuse to budge from anything over the £10m mark we'd surely look elsewhere. There seems to be too much smoke for there not to be any fire with this rumour though.

Dunno mate. I've no idea if they're linking more players to us now than they were last season.
I think if they say something on the lines of "We've heard ..." implying a leak from the club , then it might have some substance, but if they just say "There's a rumour ..." then it's likely to be pretty high on the jargometer.

Which isn't to say that jarg, made up stuff doesn't sometimes come true, but any of us could produce a long list of which a few might well be right, but that doesn't make us informed in any way.
