Summer Transfer Window - Credible Rumours Only Please

Mods, move this post to the other thread if need be but I thought id provide my incite on how I think the more reputable transfer links are going. If anyone feels they need to add on any more than feel free.

1 - Gerard Deulofeu Barcelona

Worst kept secret around at the moment that this is pretty much a done deal thanks to some credible links and the lovely Mari deciding to send tweets of a very blue looking river Mersey. At the price quoted then it could potentially be the signing of the summer (although SKY are only interested in who spends the most surely it should be based on who gets best value for money, but that is for another day). Hopefully this deal will be completed in the next couple of days and we can move onto stalking our next target. Likelihood of signing 9/10

2 – Scott Dann Crystal Palace

Scott Dann has divided opinion on here I see. A proven Premier league defender who we have tried to sign in the past. The question is how much and will he be willing to leave somewhere he has been player of the season and is club captain? Unless he is being brought in as a Stones replacement? Is he left sided by the way? I genuinely don’t know. Does he want to move back to the North West. At 8 million im not sure but I would take him for 6 million but don’t think Palace would sell for that. Solid and an organizer though which we have been missing last season. Likelyhood of signing 7/10

3 – Virgil Van Dijk Celtic

A quick google of this guys name plus any of the premier league teams will produce a news story linking him with pretty much every premier league club, so the genuine interest we have in him is questioned. A more “hipster” option to Dann but is he any good. Playing for Celtic in the Scottish league and sometimes caught out in European games add to that an absence from the dutch international team which isn’t exactly littered with centre backs. Saying that the likes of Wanayama, Forster & Ki have come from Celtic to the prem and done very well. Played left side all last season and is still only 23, although as said, a lot of teams may be in for him which may cause a bidding war that could dilute our chances of getting him. Likelyhood of signing 5/10

4. Mousa Dembele Fulham

Young lad who made his debut for Fulham vrs us a couple of years ago and looked decent. My guess is Dembele would go into the u21 side similar to how Henen did this year. Don’t know much about him but his reord in the Fulham youth team and French teams is exceptional. If we cant buy in talent we may have to develop it. A few twitter “ITK” have said he will sign July 1st, we will just have to wait and see. Likelyhood of signing 8/10

5. Dimitri Payet Marseille

To be honest I hadent heard of this guy until we were linked a week or so ago. A quick youtube of this guy made me think get him here (a quick youtube of Phil Neville’s best bits could do that to though). With a lot of our squad either under 24 or above 32 we need a few “mid range “ players to help the kids along and help the oldies when their legs run out. West Ham seem to have jumped the que since then and reports of a 14 million bid probably means for this “number 10” we will have to look elsewere. Probability of signing 2/10

6. Tom Heaton Burnley

Links/ rumours cam about for the Burnley goalie who has recently joined the England squad. Saved a Ross Barkley penalty at Goodison last year and hasent looked out of place in the prem. A 2million price tag is buttons for a player these days. Can we get better? Will he be replacing Joel or Howard?. Recent comments from Howard with regards to pre season tour & Joels ability as understudy last year suggests neither are going anywere very soon, so I would put this down as another that dosent have any real strength. Probability of signing 3.5/10

As said previously mods, if you feel this needs to go into the speculation thread feel free, but I feel I have only put players we have been genuinely linked with on it and if anyone else feels another player needs adding feel free

Good post mate.

As you've said, our link to Van Dijk seems pretty tenous in that every man and his dog seems to be linked to him. I'd say a 5 is a bit hopeful for him signing and I'm not sure about Dembele being quite as likely as an 8 but I'd pretty much agree with everything else you've said.

Van Dijk isn't even a "gamble"

He's a sure thing, which he'll no doubt prove for someone else should we fail to acquire him

Some very, VERY knowledgable people in football rate Van Dijk highly. He's only been at Celtic for as long as he has as they are desperate not to lose him.

We will kick ourselves if we don't sign him. We honestly will. It will haunt us

What just like we did by loosing Duffy!

Van Dijk is a risk completely. And at quite a big outlay.

Just before I leave the thread, I agree with this post

Van Dijk has experience playing in Europe, which Dann doesn't

He can take a wicked free kick

He can defend and attacK

He's been linked with a number of big sides

He'd probably cost the same as Dann but would be on lower wages

In short, Virge > Dann

Nothing wrong with Dann as a player, but if signing him means we can't have Virge then it's a no from me

Now, I'm off for a walk to calm down

.....not sure I understand why there is a discussion here about Van Dijk. I must have missed us being linked with him.

Twitter is about to break.

How reliable are they ?
Actually, I think I know the answer

The professional cynic in me says that everyone remembers the ones they get right, but forget about the ones they get wrong.
If they're right more than 40% of the time then I'd say they're either sourced in some way or are careful about what they guess at.

Anyway, I'd be happy with Dann. We've not had anyone consistently decent at getting his head to the ball at set pieces since Cahill was playing regularly.

I just want to see us bring in a proper number 10 playmaker. And once thats out the way i couldnt give two f**ks about who comes in. But the more we spend at the mo on other positions the more i worry we won't get a decent Playmaker

I'd be super surprised if we signed van Dijk (can people please spell his name right ffs). I love ball playing defenders but it's fairly well recorded from past teams how a contrast of ball-playing/John Terry is a better partnership. We'd all very quickly fume if we let a goal in because Stones and VVD were on the edge of the opponents box trying to score a scissor kick.
