Here’s hoping the optimism isn’t misplaced this season
I think it’s more realism than optimism. I don’t expect miracles, but I do have more trust in Dyche to get the job done than any of our other recent managers. You can at least see a plan with him, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised that plan includes some intent to actually attack the opposition’s goal from time to time.

Be fair mate, he’s hardly had an abundance of attacking talent at his disposal.

Never once have I looked at an attacker signed by Burnley and thought “oh we’ve missed out there.”

Fella was literally working with championship level players on championship level wages.
well now he has championship level players on ridiculous PL level wages ....

He’s also been a manager for a decade and his best attacking player development wise is Kieran Trippier. It isn’t just about the tactics here.

He brought Danny Ings through didn't he and I know he's a little RS worm who loves a goal against us but I reckon he'd have been a very decent player if he didn't do 2/3 ACLs. Even so he's had a good Premier league career.

Did alright with Maxwell Cornet as well pretty sure he was like 9 goals in 23 games or something,

Not forgetting Dwight Mcneil who was our top goalscorer last season (although its a travesty that he was and only with 7).

Suppose you could at a reach say Rodriguez and Wood were decent, Wood was 1 in 3 over his time at Burnley.

If you look at Burnley's transfer history on transfermarkt during the Dyche years, yeah you are right, other than Trippier the only other name that sticks out to me is Ings. But also, look at the club's they mainly sell to, Championship or SPL, that tells you about the level of player Dyche kept in the league for the best part of 10 years.

Personally I cannot. And better than Frank and Rafael is just not really a bar that I bother looking at. I’m hoping there’s just enough there to squeeze out 15th and move on next summer when the buyout is lower.

I’ll give you Ings

Not even at a reach.... Chris wood at Burnley has a right handful and a very decent player.

It’s always been a choice he’s made. He was at Burnley for 10 years! He chose to not sign anyone like that!
I don't know if he was doing the choosing then but I doubt he's doing the choosing now. If we can avoid adding an ageing warhorse by the end if the window then I'd say Thelwell has done a good job and Dyche has stayed out if his way

Let’s say we bring in Willy and Hugo. I’ll be honest I’m still very skeptical that we are bringing in the latter, but if we did these are the windows we should be having. You bring in veterans on loans and cheap signings to bring leadership and depth (Young, Coleman re-signed), you bring in a guy on loan with something to prove (Danjuma) and you invest in young players that can grow into starters and have re-sale value (Gnoto, Hugo, Youssef).

If that is our window, then we couldn’t really ask for anything more. We tried to go about it the right way. You’d hope for a CB on loan but that opportunity doesn’t always arise. Again, it isn’t over.
