If you had offered me the deals we have done and only, at present, losing Lukaku of any real note, at the start of this window, I would have been delighted.

We do still need a top class striker and left sided defender but if the suitability is not there then we should not panic buy.

Other clubs around us have struggled with certain targets.

That is the nature of the modern game with the obscene finances knocking about.

We´ve made a mess of it, no denying it. We bought a good, young goalkeeper, a good centre back and Sigurdsson but the team as it stands is weaker than it was one year ago. DCL as our only striker. Wasn´t that bad even under Moyes who hated strikers.

..I only say that because the deal was reported dead yesterday. Apparently we weren't prepared to match his wages but who knows, perhaps it'll be resurrected.

He's the only realistic choice for a striker that we need to push into top 6 that is actually available and likely willing to join us.

Deeney is realistic too but he's not going to push us into top 6 so if we don't get Costa or somebody of his calibre then I'd rather we just save the money and make do with what we have rather than waste it on someone who will only add a marginally extra bit of depth.

Pleased with Vlasic, in the sense that it's someone we don't know anything about so will be exciting to see how he does.

It is ludicrous we haven't got targets in - so far - for those two positions though. Koeman mentioned them weeks ago. He seemed certain we'd be getting them. He won't be pleased.
